Well guys, I'm officially retiring from this thread after 2 years. I'll check this thread every so often, but I'm on to my next project, the AW 50cc Extra 300.

My Yak is now a bare airframe. If you want any parts, contact me.

Happy Flying!

James, I'm not sure what it weighs but I bet its on the heavy side. I'll see if I can find a scale and let you know.

Help with CG.....new Saito 125, Al spinner, APC prop, 6V 2500 battery mounted on top of engine box.........I'm having to use about 10oz of weight on top of cowl about where engine box is to balance at 3 3/8 inches at wing tips..........does that seem correct? I want plane set up for very easy sport/weekdend flying.......Thanks WC

blue77 - one of the things that AW suggests to help with balancing is to move the engine forward. I used 1/4" thick nylons spacers I bought at Lowe's and they had 1/2" thick spacers as well. This helped my CG problem. I ended up with 2 oz weights above the engine box and the engine forward 1/4". I wouldn't move it more than 1/2" forward.

jamesrxx951 - Talking about CG...I set mine at the recommended 3 3/8". It seems to be really touchy on the elevator set on low rates with 50% expo. Elevator was set at 1" travel on low rates. The plane seems to "Porpoise" like it is tail heavy. Any thoughts on how to adjust it to make the elevator less sensitive?

There's a few things you could do. First off where are your control rods located on the servo horn and control surface horn? if they're both as far out as possible that's correct, depending on how you fly, this could vary a bit. if they're close to the surface this will manually reduce expo making it touchy even with a lot of programed expo (no recommended). Do you have extended servo arms? The farther the control rod is out on the horn the more sensitive it is. Try to get the amount of throw you're looking for on high rates without having to move the control rod out on the servo horn. Only move it out farther if need be. are you 100% positive you're balancing correctly. Level thrust line (very important) on two points (no fingers). It's possible to be a 1/4 inch off using your fingers to balance. Is there any excessive elev trim up or down? That would also make it sensitive as you might have unwanted incidence in the stab. One last thing are your stick on your Tx long or short? Long sticks are a lot less sensitive and vice verse for short sticks. Another way for manual expo. Hope this helps.

gonzoman,
You gave me a lot of good things to check. It will take a bit to check it all out but I will get back to you with what my settings are. Thanks for the tips.

One last thing I forgot. If all is good on your set up and it is still touchy. I've flown a few yaks, not this one, but a seagull and a kit built one which I no longer have R.I.P. they were all touchy on their elev. and it's just the nature of the beast. You might just need to get used to the way that plane flies. You could move the cg forward and slowly move it back to get used to the way it flies, but that would compromise the way the airframe is supposed to handle until you get the cg in its proper location. Best of luck to ya.

i actually set my low rates even lower than aeroworks suggested throw. made it alot better. depending on how you like your cg, i just have a breath on down to hold level. some people like hands off and some like more pressure. i wanted 3d throws so i set my high rate to my 3d throws about 50degrees elevator and low rates i set it up to fly real nice. this plane does not need alot of elevator throw to fly good. drop it down to maybe 3/4"? i use a angle meter. keep it set up as it is and fly it and pay attention to how much elevator you use to fly smooth. try not to pull back all the way. once you get the feel for the proper amount you like to fly it at then set your low rate at that.

I maiden mine and it feels touchy on the elevator, but the CG is about 1/2" back, it flyes inverted with out any elevator input.

I will have to ad a spiner to try to balance it a little bit forward. I allready move the ignition batery to the motor box and the fligth pack as forward as I could.

I have it with the MLD-28 engine, I was suprise it did balance tail heavy.

Thank you.

Let me know how much power you need for hoverin this beast. That's the setup I'm looking at running.

james, you gave me the same suggestion about the perry pump a while back. i am thinking of doing this now and am curious about any fuel consumption increase with the perry pump. did you notice any? happy flying, capt

Default RE: Introducing the new 90-1.20 Yak QB

This thread has been such a big help to me, so I figured I'd post my experience...
YS 1.10
Cool Power 30% Heli
APC 16x6
Hitec 5625x4 and 5645 for rudder, standard for throttle
Futaba 7C FASST

This is the best plane I have ever flown! Plenty of speed and power, crisp response. Hover right at half throttle, and decent pull out. Unlimited vertical, not unbelievable, but more than sufficient for the uplines I fly. Balanced on the recommended spot with 6oz. of weight - which I was not pleased with, but it still flies great. Might take 1/4-3/8 out for a little more tail weight. I see a lot of people using the 28cc gas, and I just don't need it. I think the mighty YS will pull a Saito 150, so I have all the power I need, but I am flying 130 feet above sea level. Thanks to everybody on here for your experiences, helped me to decide on plane and power system. I have some pics of it flying, but I don't know how to post them. The plane looks like all the others, so just use your imagination!
