RE: 1.20 Yak 54 QB Rebuild after crash
Hi David,
Yes the dual elevator servos saved my Yak-54 also. I use the blue locite on all my screws, but I must have forgot to use it on that elevator servo.
Here's a picture on my son, Nick, and myself with our latest bird. Has about 10 flights on it to date. It's the Aeroworks 100cc Extra 300. We have a DLE 111 in it. Flies great.

Hey Ralph White,
Think you can give me a hand with this? I sure hope you can because if I have to purchase another fuse its $200 and about $24 for shipping(s/h could be more). By the time I get a new fuse to Freeport Bahamas (have to pay Bahamas Customs) I would be spending over $350. It would be cheaper for me to just get a new plane.

Airborne,
Looks just like my plane the time my son knocked the gear off on a landing that the wind turned sideways a little. He fixed it and it came out perfect and stronger than when it was new.
I'll take a look at the area on my plane to figure out exactly what he did. The hard part is getting the two plywood stripes replaced that run fore and aft just under the piece that came out on yours.
Don't throw anything away as it looks like most of it can be glued back together without replacing (except the plywood parts of course).
I'll look at it tonight or tomorrow morning as I'm working on my trailer lights at the moment.

Airborne,
Sorry for taking so long to respond. I've been very busy at work the last couple of weeks.
I'll tell you what you need to do and then try to tell you how to do the repair. What you will have to do is replace the pieces of wood that run fore and aft and that the landing gear plywood mount is glued to. They are the pieces that broke where the landing gear ply came out. They are about 3/4" wide and 5" long hard wood that is not really hard enough. You will need to replace those pieces with 1/4' aircraft (5-ply) plywood. I think you ordered 1/8" aircraft plywood but that is okay has you can simply glue two 1/8 thick pieces together to make the 1/4" thick plywood.
What you have to do is remove the bottom fuselage section that is in front of the landing gear mount. The part that is damaged and coming off. Be careful removing the section as you should be able to glue it back on after you replace the two rails mentioned above. First remove the covering on the damaged section and then remove the section. You may have to cut some of the section that is not broken loose.
Once you remove that small section you should be able to get to the two broken off rails I mentioned above. They are tuff to get to. Cut the two rails out and then glue in two new rails made out of the 1/8' (doubled to 1/4' thickness) plywood you ordered.
Once you get this part completed then I will help on the next steps. Remember don't throw any pieces away as they may be able to be glued back in. You should clean off the broken rails from the landing gear mount (has the blind nuts in it). I think you will be able to use the old landing gear mount. If not you will need to make up one from the 1/8" plywood doubled to 1/4" thick. If that is the case use the old mount for measurements.
More later,
Ralph

RE: 1.20 Yak 54 QB Rebuild after crash
I removed the damage rails, then I cut two new rails 3/4''x1/4''x5 1/4''. (my rails were 5 1/4'') I did just as you said to glue the 1/8 ply to get the 1/4''. Notice that I also made a 'T' cut for the new grear plate. I felt as if this would be a little reinforcement. I wish I had taken more pictures for you to see everything I did before gluing the plate in place.

Airborne, Glad to see you got the new rails in. Hope you get lots of flights out of it now. Send more pictures. Always like to see them.
Here's my son and mine's new airplane. Another Aeroworks, the 100 cc Extra 300. We are still flying our Yaks also.
Ralph
For some reason I can't get the file to upload right now, I'll try again later.

RE: 1.20 Yak 54 QB Rebuild after crash
I'm thinking about building the gear plate like I did with my Showtime 50. I don't understand why this area is usually so soft....
