came close?
as in ''Came close to invading my airspace, but never actually did''.

Oh come on, it came close to .. well.. it came close to being considered 'too close'
- but never actually did get 'too close' / 'invade my airspace'
Actually, it DID invade his airspace. The report said that the rocket/object was two miles away. Protected airspace horizontally around each aircraft within terminal airspace is 3nm.

FBI sources told 11 News that there are slightly different versions of what happened Monday.

After arriving safely in Cleveland, the captain of the Continental flight told investigators what he saw was two miles from the plane and appeared to be the vapor trail of a rocket.

The co-pilot told agents that what he saw was a more dense black smoke coming from the object
so they dont\ even know what color the smoke was,
yet you trust their visual range finding ability on an object they dont even know what color it was

Sounds like another 'west coast mystery contrail' to me.

But it will set a nice precedent that
when a pilot looks down and says a model went above 400' (him looking down from 2000')
then we will all just agree that the pilots rangefinding is accurate and the model is above 400
... heck, thats just 1/4 mile down and we believe their rangefinding at 2miles this time.

and thats what this is all about, right?
To say we stand behind any and all pilots visual reports of models they want to report,
be that in Huston or Prado or MileSquarePark, pilots are always accurate when reporting models from miles away
(even when they dont know what color they were supposedly looking at)

hmmm
if some plane is flying around the countryside 10000' above a model club,
what is the maximum alt we can fly a model at our club
and stay over 3miles away as to not violate the 10k planes airspace?

Full scale pilots are always right.
Look around here at the posts that start out,
'Well, I'm a full scale pilot, and..."
Since they fly the big boys, and most of us only fly toys,
well, what do we know.

Fortunately, we have a few here that fly both!
Thank God!

Well, I'm a full scale pilot, and since I am always right, I will say the only thing about altitude you can ever be somewhat sure of is it was at, below or above your altitude.
