Default FAA loses planes

News says FAA has lost track of around 119,000 airplanes. They don't know who the owners are or where they are parked.

This is the same bunch thats gonna set standards for modelers. Typical govt. dept. run by overpaid underworked govt employees.

One of them is onesomeone close to meonced owned. It was flipped over in a wind storm, the tail tie down rope broke. He sold it to an airplane salvage company. He sent them bill of sale form so its their fault. He has a copy of a letter from the insurance company requireing a copy of the bill of sale an FAA form.He keeps telling himself I should send it in but never get saround to it.

Yeah, keep it without having to do annuals each year, then when the rest are gone it will be worth a fortune!

I think the news is overblowing this. The issue is that until now, an aircraft was registered once and it had an N-number for life.

Active aircraft have annual inspections and are in the records. Aircraft that have been crashed, salvaged, taken apart and stored in barns and garages and locked up hangars, mounted on poles and abandoned at private airports have not be kept track of as well as they should have been, as no one was required to report than an aircraft was inactive. Crashes and aircraft parted out were suposed to be on the records, but I known that the occasional private aircraft has been wadded up on the owners land and not always reported and that paperwork is often misplaced.

I wonder is the FAA has done a data pull from the NTSB accident database to see how many N-numbers that are known to have been destroyed are still on their database.

They could find some of them by asking salvage yard companies for their bill of sale of the aircraft in thier yard. IMOthe FAA hasn't tried hard enough.

The more I think about it, I just wonder if they are pulling this re-register stunt to find out about the info on people that might own a plane an shouldn't because of their $ situation. I'll bet theres more to this opeation than first meets the eye............

Just think how much like the Gestapo they would be if they never lost track of a single plane......

A side note about incompetence.....we the tax payers shelled out millions to fund the space program. We paid dearly with blood money for everything including the camera equipment to capture this national effort on film for posterity. For permanent record to be held as a public trust until the end of time.

What happened to the film of the first Moon landing? Someone recorded over the only copy?
Bunch of over stuffed, over paid Bozos.

This is the typical caliber of bufoons that the AMA will be dealing with. If the S ever does HTF, It'll be interesting to see how they spring into action.

Not disagreeing with anything you said, but just noting "they" is "we". It will be interesting to see how involved the membership
gets in this too.

It's gonna take more than just the folks in Muncie.

804, you took my last sentence to mean something different than what I meant.....but your "take" on it actually adds "AMA related" relevance to my post.
If us flyers ever end up getting treaded on too heavily, I'll fire off letters to my local congressmen. They have paid flunkies to intercept and scan all incoming correspondence, looking for causes that will help further their careers and make their bosses look like heroes.
Once they receive my letter, I'll include a paper clip that they can use for nose weight after they fold my letter into a paper airplane.
In the midst of a Great Recession with record unemployment, home foreclosures and all the other nasty stuff that is going on, the complaints from the guys with the toy airplanes will surely get all the attention they sorely deserve from our law makers.
As far as UAVs are concerned, I don't have any use for them patrolling my skies. If the FAA wants to clamp down on their usage, that's fine with me. I don't want my line of sight RC activity confused with the other and in my opinion the only good UAV is a dead UAV.
Kill them all and let God sort them out.

Ronnie, I'll never get to be a grouchy old f@rt, because I still listen to rock&roll just fine through my hearing aides...
What blew my socks off about 10 years ago was when some young roosterhead called what I was listening to at work, Old Fogey Music.
I was listening to Led Zepellin.

Hook..You really got a good "ZEP-RAP" goin' there! I missed out on their final West coast tour while playing soldier.......[&o] I'll never forget how outlandish they sounded in 1967-68. Our 8th grade art class teacher allowed us to play records in class and this was the most played by far.

804, from this day forward we'll use "Buffoons" for the FAA.
Any suggestions what to nickname the AMA ......

sock puppets?
lap dogs?
FAA butt wipes?

I guess Led Zep is ok if you like a band with a singer who sounds like he was
neutered before puberty, and is having a red-hot poker stuck up his... ahem.

As to the buffoons, er, FAA, I've lately invested in some micro indoor planes and helis.
I was up til 2 am this morn having just as much fun in an indoor soccer facility as I do at the field.
If it were to come down to it, I could enjoy this hobby that way.

I always find it amazing the number of guys who model, not just RC but ALL modeling, who do other creative activities like model railroading. I have always felt that creativity is something "inside" an individual, and it can't be learned. Creativity is something the younger generation lacks. I currently do photography and stained glass because all my trains are packed away since our last move. Ronnie just may have made the spark to ignite the fire I need to dig them out...
