I'd pretty much decided not to post anymore on this thread but since your words seem an attempt deflect all the while absolving yourself from the turns this thread has taken and realizing Hoss very well may not post and set it straight...
I can only imagine, since I originally only tried to put things into a real point of perspective...not really a comparison per se... and since it was you that turned things toward a comparison study exercise... He gave us both good mention.LOL But as usual...my disclaimer... I could be wrong.
Hopefully I'm done here.

Sorry, LCS, but your story about the gun club comes across strongly as a direct comparison to model airplane clubs and what you find wrong with at least some of them and not as a simple point of perspective. You carefully categorized what you liked about the gun club and contrasted those things to what you don't care for in model clubs.
i thought it was worth posting a related experience and additional info that I had come across.
I find hard to understand why you complain about the posting of contrasting viewpoints when you are so fond of expressing them yourself.
Perhaps you need to create a blog where you can post as you wish and be free of people with alternative insights that want to discuss your ideas and compare them with their own experiences, feelings and concepts.
Not going to happen in here. This is a discussion forum. I post knowing that anything I say can be trashed, dissected, lauded, ridiculed, made fun of, quoted out of context, ignored, dismissed, enjoyed, hated, applauded and lambasted. Works for me as all discussion in forums like this is, in reality, nothing greater than a tempest in a teacup.

I stand by my point...no comparison to anything...just a point.
Oh, if you have a hard time understanding my point, I'll spell it out. We are much more likely to have an accident on the way to the flying field than have an accident while at the flying field. You could just say Amen to that and leave it at that but I doubt you will.
After thinking about all this a bit...I'll play along and pretend you had no part in the direction this thread took...Happy now? You Win!!!

No matter the point made there will always someone trying to diminish it I guess....
OK then... how 'bout we compare to the other AMA... their mission statement and other proclamations even sounds the same..."The AMA is a member organization with an unparalleled 75-year history of pursuing, protecting and promoting the interests of the world's largest and" ... Hmmm...
Not sure what I should compare to... maybe the AKA...the American Knitting Association???
Look, model aviation is fairly unique activity...and is a very safe and a very worthwhile activity...and not just within the AMA fold...it just is...
Not sure why all the incessant scare tactics...but maybe someone else can offer their opinions as to why...
Just for the record, I was at my gun club today and there was quite a bit of activity as there was a shooting match going on... Now mind you we are talking about real ammo and real guns being fired for the fastest times possible and there is never 1/10 the BS that I find from the typical AMAish parables. Why is that??????
That is exactly what keeps our hobby in the weeds when compared to other activities... Not acknowledging that does not make it any less true. FWIW my gun club has about 2500 members...lots of activity, yet no where near the drama as in most AMA model airplane clubs...I know, starting to sound like a broken record, but WHY IS THAT??????????????

Now just who is it that brought up the comparison between AMA and NRA?

I made a point about how it is more dangerous to drive to the flying field than to be at the flying field...you characterized that point as a comparison of some sort...it was just a point...not a comparison. You started all the comparison dialogue that followed. Is that right?

Getting a little cranky there.
You made your point by comparing two vasty different activities on a single rather superficial level, which was accident rate. I thought it was worth elaborating on the point you made by discussing it in more detail from another perspective.

you're right... My citing info about my town's population and traffic accident data, although I failed to mention AMA club flying site accident data for comparison is a comparison of two different activities. I apologize for the confusion.
