Pick your battles.

So what, $5 every 3 years. We get to keep flying and the bureaucrats get to pretend they have solved a problem and justified their budget and existence.

Will it solve any problems? ... No. Is it a major inconvenience to us? .. No

Finally, someone is isn't going to jump off a bridge. You pay a Driver License fee, Fishing, hunting, snowmobile, boat, license fee. If it helps find the bad drone drivers ( I have no clue how this will help) more power to them.
So if you believe your "rights" are being violated, don't register. You can bet that sometime in the near future ( next year) the AMA will require your FAA certificate number of you won't get an AMA card. So then you can quit the AMA.
More power to you. If all I have to do is pay 5.00 for 3 years So I can fly my 2000.00-3000.00 giant scale warbird it's no big deal to me. I don't fly quads ( drones) I don't consider them worth my time, money or effort. I far as I am concerned, Every time the FAA finds an un registered "drone" pilot, I hope they throw the "book" at them. They caused this mess and the AMA was a willing accomplice.

Correct-- the real crime is registration will not solve anything. Neither will arguing with the FAA, registration is free now, cheap in the future.... places to fly are very expensive. Don't give law enforcement a reasonable way to shut down another field. I have been in this hobby for 50 years and I have seen too many fields shut for one reason or another. First it was the noise...mufflers were power robbing in the beginning if they existed at all. Then urban sprawl took over land that was lent or leased to clubs. Now in Pennsylvania we have the FRACKING GAS (($$^()*(*&^%$#@ wells taking land because they own the mineral rights UNDER THE LAND and don't want planes running into wellheads. Stop the nonsense, register, let the courts battle it out later..... they will not resolve this by February 19!!!!!!

Anyway, I've noticed something, maybe y'all have too. In this thread, and all the other threads, the people commenting (including me) are all model airplane (going by the 80-yr old understood definition of "model airplane") flyers. I'm not sure I've seen ANY comments by a pure "drone" enthusiast. Have they even noticed what's happening? Do they care?
I noticed that as well..I don't see any drone pilots giving comments..well very few anyways cause they don't have anything to lose..It's just US.... well maybe later, after the faa is done with us

Here in Guam,..I'm the only sailplane pilot..probally around 30 regular power guys.. you think they'll round us up here on guam and send us to guantanamo cause we want ONLY to enjoy our hobby in peace...used to ride bikes but not good for my Health, used to do Hotrods like most of you guys..

we build airplanes quietly , stay out of trouble, break no laws, pay our taxes and now they don't want us to fly..maybe we should stop voting those guys in and if we did'nt, they should be fired

I think i need to clarify....
not tryin to break laws or anything but should'nt the faa go after the guys causing all the problems...we are in a sense 'whichever way you look at it" being picked on, because of other peoples BAD behaviour..thats why I choose to fight back..and again guys..do ya really think they can stop us ?

will hobby stores be banned like speakeasys in the 30's-40's..having any rc planes be a felony....yet we can't feed the poor, shelter the homeless..would'nt the money being blown on the Faa venture of total domination of rc pilots be best used to take care of the Less fortunate..

and all the billons spent to cuddle the real culprits...idiots

Semper Fi, o-brother-o-mine (dad was 1st Div Marine). AF must have had the same D.I.s, we learned pretty much the same.

Actually, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that as long as the govt is persecuting us anyway - I'm not going along with it - - I will not register, and that means something - coming from a guy that's obeyed govt edicts all his life.

Here's why;

1.) drunk US govt employee flies drone onto WH lawn - without being charged for ANY crime.
He was flying a machine while drunk - charge #1.
He was flying a machine within the DC ADIZ - charge #2.
He was flying an unlit machine after dark within city limits - charge #3, for DC.
He was flying a machine over US govt territory, unauthorized (y'know, the "people's" house, where we're all frisked before being allowed to enter) - charge #4.
...and probably a plethora of charges I can't think of - AND ZERO HASSLE FROM GOVT.

2.) idiot tourist flies drone into Yellowstone Pk pool - and is simply escorted off the park, losing his drone in the water.
There have since been ZERO charges toward this guy (I looked it up to be sure).

3.) dozens of idiots are flying these things everywhere and posting on u-tube with ZERO hassle from govt. Proof of this is to simply take a look-see at u-tube.

4.) idiot flies drone in Hawaii during POTUS TFR, with ZERO hassle from govt., other than being told to land for awhile.

Nope, no reason to put myself in the govt crosshairs - not going to register and there will be ZERO hassle from govt.

The FAA move is ostensibly about the safety of our national air space. It doesn't seem to be a move to "dominate" RC pilots...they could have done this years ago if that was the case, why wait until now?
