Default Dronetag Beacon RID Module

Dronetag now has a 16 gram RID unit, Dronetag Beacon.

Dronetag also has a $72 single board RID with antenna that works with a Pixhawk flight controller.

Getting there. Prices are still high, but they will come down (especially once the Chinese knock-offs start to appear).

Agree, 16 gram may not sound like a lot of weight until you start looking at what size models are park flown. At least the temp range has improved although I still have concerns that 140F may be an issue in a CF constructed sailplane. IMO, still in the wait and see phase. Of course the drone/quad market which these are focused at will be just fine with the module as is. Makes me wonder just how much effort they will expend on the airplane market? Do any other manufacturers have anything ready to go?

The electronics in the Dronetag DRI single board are less than $10. Another RID board, DroneBeacon, was based on an ESP module that are as little as $5 retail. They are now using a different chip but this is all inexpensive and open source.

It appears to not be a stand alone unit, is this correct? If my understanding is correct then it can not be used in legacy R/C airplanes.

The Dronetag Beacon and Mini are stand-alone units. The Dronetag DRI and DroneBeacon boards are tied to a flight controller, but RID only needs the GPS. My guess is someone will come up with a bare bones unit by September at half the price of Dronetag.

I have my doubts but will keep an open mind. Now that I’m back to flying helicopters I wouldn’t mind finding an appropriate place to fly closer to home.

This stand-alone is $128 and FAA compliant.

The FAA now has over 50 approved drones and modules on their Remote ID page and no rejections. The standard was designed to be easy to comply with using existing electronic components.

Anyone have one of the "DRONETAG BEACON DIRECT / BROADCAST REMOTE ID MODULE" yet? I'm wondering what the setup weighs if you remove their hard shell.....

Went to the FAA page. Not able to find this. Can you provide a specific link/where to find?
