Default Mowing the ruff

When the grass gets tall, and the planes won't roll who is going to cut the RUFF. It take the old FART's to keep the wheels turning. A lot of people put in a lot of time to keep this hobby what it is. Just one that is getting tired of the BS.
If you don't like what the old guies are doing run for an office. OH did I hear I'm to busy, don't have the time blow it out the other end!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mow the RUFF at two fields, every 4 to 5 days, but I'm not an old guy. Sorry.

What you are looking at ,is how many young people are involved in AMA in offices at the regional level. There are a lot of people that complain about what is being done but no one in the younger set has time, except on the PC. Seem that the only ones that have time is the older fellow and gals that want to see changes. They are the one's that are mowing the ruff, every one will take care of the runway so they can use it. Where would we be if the ruff was no taken care of. I still think money is wasted and Muncie is a crock just my thought's.

Time to increase the dosage on your medication.

Talk about a pointless rambling thread.[X(]

RC Outlaw

Are you going to run for office? Your district is in need of candidates.

Seems to me that some of the younger folks have figured out you don't have to run the organization to make changes. You do have to understand how the system works, and some have taken the time to figure it out and caused changes to be considered and made.

Look at Dave Brown's column in the new issue of MA.

No I am not running for office, I have anough problems the way it is.
And to all the other remarks made , This thread is no different than some of the BS on here. Most of the people in AMA are well along and have put in their time, A lot of the people are working with AMA when they should be enjoying the time they have left. And yes I still FLY MODEL AIRCRAFT .( And as some one will say you better stick to flying)

What makes you think that those people that are working with the AMA are not enjoying the time? Seems to me some people enjoy giving back to something they have loved for so long.

Hi

RC Outlaw, Im with you, anyone who doesn't know what your talking about, doesn't have a clue in the first place. But the saying "That was Then This is NOW !" comes to mind. All you can do these days is avoid the other type like the plague, if possible. Unfortunatley they are in every club. But you wont do it here in the RCU forums. To many know it alls, name callers, and pseudo intellectuals, etc. Choose your flying mates and ignore the BS as much as you can. JR dont bother with a reply.

I think the best thing is to watch what we post and ignor the trouble maker, especially on this form and at the field. As has been stated This only a (Hobby Sport) ., and you never get to old to learn . And most of all no one person nose every thing and to smart to learn something. You learn something new every day, when you quit learning thats when your use on earth is over!!!

Not having enough time, that is just the way society is nowdays. I see more and more families on the go, not even slowing down to set together at the same table for a meal. So yes, nobody has time to attempt to make changes themselves. The fact of the matter is that the older crowd "does" have the extra time to make changes. One thing you are wrong about, very wrong about, is the groundskeeping. You think that it is just the old folks doing all the work. That's not so, at least not at my club. I am the president of one club, and the founder of my alternate flying site. Every time the clubs grass has been cut, "I" cut it. Every day there was work to do at my alternate site, I was there doing it. Most work that was being done would probably put you in the hospital from overexertion. So don't set there and talk like only old folks do work at clubs. I'll hang right in there with the best of you, and then some. And, at my private site, if you don't help maintain it, you don't fly there ever again. One thing I can't stand is a lazy-assed mooch. There's no such thing is all flying and no work, with me. It aint gonna happen!

Ha Ha, that's funny, but I don't need a nap. I own and run my body shop during the day, cater to a wife and 2 kids at night, maintain my farm, and ALWAYS make time to fly and maintain the fields so we can all fly. The maintenance at the field is getting to be too much for the "old guy" that used to do it.

What is wrong with you people? If you took as much time as you have spent posting here and used it to do something constructive within your local club or on a regional or national level, I'm sure we would all be better off. I have nothing bad to say about someone expressing an opinion, but lets all remember, it is only one voice and unless it has allot of other voices behind it singing the same tune, it will be overcome by the majority. This pointless discussion on oldand young is garbage. The old have paid their dues, were once the young guys nd maybe even heard the same talk we are now seeing her. As far as maintenance of a field, has anyone heard of the 20/80 rule? It states that 20% of the people will do 80% of the work. Thats true for field maintenance, work at a work-site, volunteer, etc. There is no distinction between old and young in this equation. As far as the question about the AMA. I have my card and am proud of the fact that I belong to a group that promotes a hobby that I fully enjoy. I have no plan to march on the AMA headquarters, burn my membership card, or dare to say I could do it better, seems like there were a bunch that did very similar things in the past, wonder who they might be? After 20 years of active duty in the Navy, I had many obstacles to overcome, change happened on a hourly bases at times. But you supported the organization and worked toward making things better. Its already been said, if your not happy, change it. Don't pander an excuse as to why you can't do it, there enough armchair quarterbacks out there, stand up and be heard. I'm sorry if maybe this seems like the ramblings of an old (51) Navy Chief, but it gets my goat to see anyone not working to correct a problem or making the process better. I'm sorry for that and this is not directed to any one person, just the group as a whole. Now if you will excuse me, I'm going to read my AMA magazine and see where a fly in is this weekend and have some FUN....

BB
Look like he was reading between the lines, and figured out the Ruff was not the field. That clubs and Organizations need the ruff smoothed out. A person should get a rest at 81 if I ever make it that far. Young people are living in the fast lane these days and better wake up , most do not even have time to vote or voice their oppinion! And yes I understud every thing Navy typed.
Hey Navy
My youngest son is a chief and sound just like you, Is that how you were trained.

All the young guys in our club want to buy our own land and build an airpark. I said "great", who's going to do the construction? Who's going to do all the legal, financial, and other paperwork? Who's going to maintain it?????

I don't even have time to paint my own house, yet alone a clubhouse. Many of us are working two jobs, plus family, plus what time we have, to actually fly, so I'm content to just fly off our present strip that has nothing at it but a bush to pee behind.

These guys get these ideas from a sister club that has 85% of the membership RETIRED. These guys have the time to go out and piant, and mow, and have the resources to maintain a club like that. They don't exclude us young jetset yuppies either, If I cannot work but want to fly, then I just pay an additional maintenece fee that goes into a pot that pays for mowing, paint, etc....

I also send the old guy who mows our field a Tower gift certificate twice a year just to say "thanks" since I can't do it.

However, Since I can do it at work, I do all the secretary and treasurery work for the club, so I guess I do put my "time" in.

Hey RC Outlaw,

Yes we were trained like that. I'm sure your son if he read my posting would agea with most of what I said. Next time you talk to him, please pass on my thanks for the job that he does. Most of John Public has no idea just what a Sailor and his family must endure in service to our Country. I may be retired but once a Chief, always a Chief. God bless him and his family and keep him safe.
