I HAVE READ THIS THREAD FRONT TO BACK & FRANKLY, DAVE YOU SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF ME. TO THINK THAT YOU ONLY LIVE A FEW MILES FROM ME ONLY SCARES ME MORE.[X(]
NOW, THE SUBJECT AT HAND. I AGREE WITH THE AMA'S POSITION ON YOUR UAV'S.
I SEE NO PLACE FOR THEM AT THE FLYING CLUBS AT ALL. SO THE AMA NOT RECONIZING THEM IS A GOOD THING. I DONT EVER SEE THAT CHANGING, AT LEAST IN YOUR LIFETIME. WHICH WILL ALLOW ME & MY FAMILY TO SLEEP BETTER AT NIGHT.
YES, I SEE THE SCIENCE, YES, I SEE THE VISION. BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. IF YOU WANT TO DO THIS THEN YOU SHOULD JOIN THE AIRFORCE, OR ONE OF THE BEFORE MENTIONED COMPANIES. I'M SURE THEY WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU.
THINK ON THIS, TURBINE JETS. WELL THEY ARE REGULATED. THEY ARE CAUSING SOME PROBLEMS @ CLUBS NOW. THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE THEM ARE NOW COMPLAINING, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT ALOWED TO FLY THEM AT THE FIELDS ANYMORE. YET THEY FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO FLY THERE!!! SO THE VERY FEW FLYERS OF JETS DON'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT THE HUNDREDS THAT WILL SUFFER IF THEIR FIELD CLOSES DOWN BECAUSE OF THEM.
SO IN CLOSING, I FEEL THAT UAV'S HAVE NO BUSINESS @ THE FIELDS, AND DEFENTLY NO BUSINESS IN THE LHS'S. IF YOU WISH TO DO BUILD/FLY THEM GREAT. JUST KEEP THEM ON YOUR PROPERTY, AND BE QUIET ABOUT IT.

Mr. CFRACR
I said I was not going to say any more about UAV's and how unlikely it would be for a terrorist to use one to do bad stuff.
If you go back and look at my last post you will see that did not. What I was referring to was full scale aircraft that have gone missing and no one has any idea as to there whereabouts.
I am going out on a limb here and and will assume that you fly at the SRQ model field there in Sarasota at the old garbage dump please excuse my politically incorrectness I should have said at the landfill.
I would like to invite you and Mr. Dave Brown and any one that is on this forum that would like to come out and see one of my UAV's fly to please contact me by email or you can call me at 1- 941-723-9058 and I would be more than happy to demo one for you.
Now as for my being quiet about it, I have the same freedom of speech rites as a U.S. Citizen that you have. please don't for get that.
It amasses me that there are some guys on this form are so paranoid about one of my little 15 lb UAV's but could care less about a missing 727 and the Piper PA 25 Pawnee crop duster.
Hay Abel
I bet the you can remember the song by Stephen Stills, how dose the line go some thing like" Paranoia Runs Deep"
That should be Mr. CFRACR them song.

ACTUALLY I READ YOUR COMMENT REGARDING THE FULL SCALE AIRCRAFT, BUT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TOPIC OF THE THREAD. I THOUGHT THAT THE TOPIC WAS REGARDING WHETHER THE AMA SHOULD ALOW/SANCTION AUTO-PILOT AIRCRAFT.
I AM NOT PARANOID AT ALL. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR VIEWS & MINE & OTHERS. IS THAT YOU WOULD NOT CLOSE A FIELD UNTIL SOMEONE GETS HURT. I & OTHERS WOULD WANT TO CLOSE A FIELD BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. THAT MAKES YOU SOMEWHAT OF DANGEROUS @ MIND.
IF YOU THINK THAT PEOPLE ARE PARANOID OF A 15LB GAS POWERED PLANE, YOUR RIGHT. IF YOU FEEL THAT YOUR PLANE/PLANES ARE NOT DANGEROUS THEN MY POINT BEFORE WAS MADE.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
REGARDING THE CRACK ON THE SRQ FIELD. WELL ACTUALLY NO, I DO NOT FLY THERE.
NEVER HAVE, BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE HEARD ITS ONE OF THE NICEST IN THE STATE WITH OVER 200 MEMBERS. LIVING IN PALMETTO I FIGURED YOU MAY NOT KNOW THAT.

Lots of dangerous minds around I suppose.
Stop flying , no one gets hurt.
Close all the highways and save a couple hundred lives tomorrow. Don't even consider those that need to get somewhere like the hospital >>> read on:
AARP just reported some 90,000 plus people are seriously injured or killed each year by incompetent medical care.
So simply shut down all the medical facilities and save some 280 lives tomorrow. (Don't even think about the number that will die without the care)
About the only way to close a field before someone gets hurt is simply to close it now, unless someone can read the tea leaves and predict future hurts.
Sorry however I am definitely not one of the "others" that you claim are in your camp: "I & OTHERS WOULD WANT TO CLOSE A FIELD BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT."
Use awareness, care, caution, and normal prevention, however continue to progress and continue flying is my camp's motto.

First I wish to apologize regarding the caps, I meant nothing by it. I post on another board that has a function that allows you to type in capitals so you don't have to use your shift all the time.
When you click to post, the program automatically takes out the caps & leaves them only where needed. So I was use to this, again no harm meant.
Next it seems that Hossfly pointed out that my comment was to broad. So I will try to narrow it just a bit.
The facts regarding the dangers of travel is well documented. Yet travel is a necessity in this nation one way or another. Flying model aircraft is a privilege & is a hobby, not a necessity.
My comment was regarding this, a situation.
There was a field (one of the oldest in the State) that had a large club membership (over 200)
that came across a dilemma. With development being the way it is (in Florida) the fly clubs that were normally on the outskirts of town began to become squeezed by development. A club that was considered out of the way, was now to be near a new subdivision. Well this particular club was facing the building of a county park just 200 yrds from the flight box. There was to be active soccer, baseball & football sport camps for kids going on through the year. The fields property was owned by the club & had been for more than 20 yrs. So as the park was being built by the county parks division, we within the club began our talks. The city never told us that we would have to move, or could not fly. Yet the problem was that half of the time when a plane went down, it went down smack in the middle of the field that was now to be a park for kids.
It went like this, we had a vote with just about all club members present. All, with the exception of eight members voted to find a new field. It was decided that we would fly until the park was opened, then our club @ that location would close. Those eight wanted to keep flying until something happened and we were made to close.
There is a club here locally that is now facing a similar dilemma. The county is erecting a recreation center behind the club. Not over, or on the edges of the flight box, but at the back of the flight line. So a plane would have to go out of control behind you to become any threat to a person or persons. I will ad that they fly turbines at this club as well that have a hard time staying in the box because of speed.
So Hossfly, this is what I meant in my before mentioned post. A position that a club may face in the future with decisions to be made on whether to find a new field, or risk it! Waiting until their forced to close because of a close call, or an accident. This giving model flying a black eye and bad publicity. Figuring that now a days a model airplane causing any type of accident that caused injury to someone, or damage to a house ect. would most likely make the news.
Where would your vote go?

Flying model aircraft is a privilege & is a hobby, not a necessity.
It's a RIGHT rather than privilege as I couldn't do it if I did not provide for the possession of the equipment ALL BY MYSELF! In addition I have provided the basis for a facility to operate therefore I consider flying there UNDER THE RULES and provisions of the HOST CLUB to be my right as well and along with the right of all the other members-in-good-standing. In my case flying and being a part of the club is a down-right pure necessity. No medical care known to man can ever become a replacement.
I THOUGHT THAT THE TOPIC WAS REGARDING WHETHER THE AMA SHOULD ALOW/SANCTION AUTO-PILOT AIRCRAFT
Where would your vote go?
My vote would be of significance only if I were involved in the case itself. I'm not and I will not judge all situations by one or two cases.
Now what has this to do with auto-pilots?
