So far this week at my club, I have seen three planes crash, very spectacular I might add, but nonetheless regrettable. Without exception, all were due to pilot error. These were pilots who supposedly know how to fly.
Hey Jim, I wonder who did it. Bet I could guess with 5 guesses!!

I'm closing up here about the 30th. Really looking forward to getting back and flying again. Got grandkids at home on Labor Day weekend, but will get back in the swirl of things right after.

Hope you guys don't let that oil-survey crew tear up the field?

Take care. BTW for those that read this Jim ain't nearly as ugly as his picture here.

HossFly:

Sorry, I should have read your post all the way to the end.!

Shame on me [X(], I do however still think that flight sims coupled with hands on training produce excellent pilots.

With that I fully agree. Such a combination is unbeatable.

Flight Sims and buddy boxes, ARFs in complete packages with radio and engines, reliable multi channel proportional, computer radios that let you mix functions so you can build models that would have been unflyable just 15 years ago, 50 R/C channels plus the ham bands, life is good for newbies.

I seem to stay out of step with lots and lots of folks. I trust computer radios - NOT! So I try to make all my planes fly simple 4 channel, no mix, no exp, no D/R. When everything is trimmed correctly, THEN I began to play with the computer parts....

Guess that is why I am so slow...

Greetings Jim;

I Fly a 8 Channel PCM Computer radio in everything, But I must agree, if the plane won't fly on 4 channels - fix it.
Once it flies properly, then add the bells and whistles.
PS, my DF F-15 uses all 8 channels, nothing else yet that complex in my hangar, Not even my Heli's.

I started flying nearly 30 years ago and all there was was 4 channel Krafts, 4 channel Futabas, and 4 channel Airtronics plus a few other brands of which I can't remember the names. You had to set everything up with linkage and control arm throws. The rest was up to you to adapt to the shortcomings of the system. We flew nearly every day and had a ball at it. I guess it was ignorance but I never missed all the bells and whistles. I just flew. Guess that's why I'm so danged good today. Hah! Like REALLY Dude.
These newfangled computer radios are cool, don't get me wrong, but there are so many functions that you can mix together that some of them can really get you in trouble if you're not three mistakes high and really thinking about what you're doing.
Two weeks ago I lost my second Pizazz cause I was a dumbass and mixed in elevator with flaps. No problem there you say, well there is if you got way too much elevator in for the flap setting. Does a nose dive from 100 feet right into the ground before you can even begin to think of what to do to correct the problem. Oh well. Such is life. Some days you're the bug and some days you're the windshield!
If my brain could still get messages to my face you would be able to see the terror.[]

Computer mixes? I get in enough trouble forgetting to take my tranny out of high rate.
