With the holidays and the rush of last minute renewals plus the staff being at the CA big party thing, may be 3 weeks or so. Give 'em a call.

Actually I think AMA Convention is one of the AMA's more profitable ventures. So I guess the booth jockey's paid the bill.

Anyhow if you need proof of AMA insurance give them a call, they will fax you a proof of membership document right out if you need it. At least they did for me one year.

I'm about 3 hours from Muncie and usually get mine in less than a week.

I paid by cc on Dec. 26th and I'm still waiting for my new card. [&o]

It takes anywhere from 1 week to even 3 weeks. I got mine in about 2 weeks. I guess you just got to have some patience in this hobby.

The sooner you renew, the sooner you get your card. Renewal notices are sent out in late September or early October.

Seems like many people believe that by waiting until the absolute last minute, they're somehow "saving" money or "getting their money's worth." Regardless of when you pay, your membership is good from 1/1 to 12/31 of the given year. In reality, it's only psychological, and then you end up waiting for your card because everyone else did the same thing.

There are two ways to save money on AMA membership:
1. Buy two years at a time.
2. Buy a lifetime membership. At the current dues price, the break-even point is 26 years. Dues will inevitably go up over the years, so if you're under age 50, and don't forsee losing interest in the hobby, it's by far the best deal.

How sure are you of that assertion? Hoss has brought into a discussion in this forum an AMA bylaws provision that states one's membership is good until until 1/31. Not stated in the bylaws is whether the insurance would remain in effect thru that Jan 'grace period.' That would be an important consideration to clubs that would allow for a grace period in line with AMA policy. Do you have further information on this?

My AMA card says right on it: "Expires December 31 of the Above Year"

If there is indeed a grace period, it's news to me. I would imagine that since the insurance is a provision of membership, that it would carry over too, though.

Regardless of the exact date of expiration, your membership is still only good for a period of 1 calendar year. Waiting to renew doesn't make your membership last longer or save money.
