I agree with LCS, I guess if the club's By-Laws specifically describe the Board's ability to do so, then yes it is legal. Even if the By-Laws state it is legal, I still think it is unethical!

Well shucks, our club doesn't have any treasure. At least none that I am aware of.

Sounds a little fishy to me. How do you know club funds were used?

It wasn't the club I belong to. It was from another club. I know one of the members and he sent me a copy of their news letter that mentioned it in the news letter. I'm not going to tell anyone the name of that club, so don't even brother to ASK........

There could be a million reasons that justify the meal
heck, they could be schmoozing the landowner / Parks Mgr with a nice dinner for all we know.
Odd? yes.
Wrong? Dont have enough info on what happened or what is allowed to happen

I was saying that it is odd that the justification for the meal is not well known to relevant parties.
I would imagine Landowner Dinner Meeting would have been a more appropriate description than just unexplained Board Dinner.... or whatever justified the dinner should have been part of the description

I think it is perfectly okay if I am on the board, else the offending board members should be taken out and shot. Hecky darn, isn't that the way many BoD members think? Serves the club right for having a BoD rather than club officers that represent the will of the members as expressed democratically.

Seems to me that without some specifics one can't really draw any conclusions on this. At least I can't.

Hopefully the story goes something like this....a couple of club members donated an entire Saturday and run time on their own heavy equipment to improve the drainage at the club field in exchange for a dinner at IHOP. Like everyone else has already alluded to, this story so far is reminiscent of "Chicken Little" screaming his little head off over nothing.

Yep. Two H9 ARF's and a Parkzone electric foamy.

Just as I thought. I try to get someone's input to a problem with another club and all I get is a bunch of wise A_ _ giving me their opinon. If this was your club and they were doing it without you knowing it, wouldn't you be a little upset???

You could let us know that the dinner was a club Inauguration Dinner that the Board voted on paying for.
I guess the real question is
were the club members included in the dues paid Inaugural Dinner,
can members attend board meetings? Can they attend Inaugurations?
But I'm sure the board has voted to spend club monies on stuff for parts of the club before,
this time round it is the Board part.
There is plenty of legitimate focused spending... like maybe putting up a couple poles for the club Pylon guys. Or a wheelchair pilot station for a guy that needs one. Or spending for club freebies: Club BBQ Day.... or Inaugural Dinner.
Would we even be having this thread if that Inauguration was done with
a dues paid BBQ Day attended by all club members?
Was the Inauguration just a poorly promoted no-lead-time club dinner?
President Steve Brown thanked outgoing board member, JR Schiager, for his 2 years
service as Committee/Events Director. Steve reported that Dan Hughes had chosen not to
serve on the board at this time. Steve made motion that the club fund tonight’s Inaugural
Dinner/Board Meeting, motion approved.
