I am looking to make a pretty Scale like model out of this ARF. I was thinking about using TopFlite's 1/8 scale
interior & the dummy radial engine What do you guys think?
I am also considering adding a retractable tailwheel or even an onboard starter... as it seems this plane is going to need some weight up front anyway...

I am finishing this plane right now. Installing a OS 1.08. Wings went together great and using retracts. I am on the control rods right now and the whole system is too cheezy to use. No way I am going to trust that setup for elevators. I am going to run two 4-40 rods for the elevators and 2-56 for the rudders. I am going to solder them together up front to attach to the servo. Sort of like a flap setup. I feel it will be more reliable. FYI

I just ordered the TF dummy radial . Hope it works out. Sure am impressed with the plane. Not one wrinkle on the whole plane...thats a first. Have a TT .91 on the way. Saw that it was the heaviest of the .91's, so I ordered it. Might send it back and get the O.S. Have the 2-cy. TT Pro .46 and its a pretty good engine, but it just doesn't quite behave like my OS's and my Saito.

I installed the top flight dummy radial. the radial is a bit larger than the cowl. I had to use the dremel to grind the radial down quite a bit to get it to fit. Had to take the tops off a few cylinders to get it to fitt right with my OS91. Noethless, you cant see it and it looks really really nice. I even wittled a wooden chin to put in the cowl. Definitley recommend the radial and homemade chin.

TwoStroke that radial looks great in your jug! I am looking at the instructions now and it says to cut one of the cylinders off for cooling. and to cut out the engine shape in the baffle backplate. Did you do this ? Becaause looking at the picture I can't tell.

I just removed material in-between the cylinders for cooling the engine. It proved to work well as the engine cylinder was directly behind one of the openings. Remember to have twice as much open area behind the dummy engine as you do in the dummy engine for venturi action, so the air is drawn through the cowl past the power plant.

Thanks for the info on the dummy radial! I just got mine installed in front of a Magnum 91 four stroke. Now on with the air retracts and 3 1/4" dia. wheels.

Here is a another pic. I am waiting on the brown truck to bring my air retracts and 3 1/4" dia. wheels. I want to fly her now but I keep telling myself to wait until the new gear is installed. Your's looks good! I made up my own decals so it is a little different. Thanks to Twostrokes I got the dummy radial in. I am waiting for my VQ Model P-51B to arrive

Hi Guys,
Has any of you had problems with warped elevators on this plane. My kit had warped elevators and shrinking the covering will not take it out. If you have had this problem what was your solution?

Wait for the gear and bigger wheels, you will be glad you did. The stockers are just to small for anything but pavement.
As far as the warped elevator, no problem with mine at all. As a matter of fact it seems odd it would warp being sheeted foam, but I suppose stranger thing have happened. It is doubtful you will be able to get it out being sheeted foam, unless someone has a trick.

Biker, I haven't flown mine with the stock wheels yet but I hear they are only good on pavement. They are to small for the plane. I didnt want to chance tearing her up on landing if a gear folds up so I ordered the Century Jet retract with oleo struts and a set of Robart 3 1/4" dia. wheels. The plane went to gether nice but for $200.00 I didn't expect a set of nice retracts.

Hi All,
My MT P-47 has a Saito 91 inverted with a Slimline Pitts muffler for the inverted 91 and an onboard glow driver. I drew up the custom graphics on my pc and had a local company print and cut them out. The tail feathers were stripped and recovered with red/white Monokote and the turtledeck was stripped & recovered with silver Solarfilm like the rest of the aircraft. It flies looks & flies great and the sound coming from the Slimline muffler is awsome!
My Jug was named "Arizona Jake" and my friend's is "Rabid Rat". We used to fly them in formation until another friend talked me out of mine! Now, I will have to build another one...

It's not that the retracts are of poor quality, it's because they are for a .40 sized plane. Put them on a plane they were made for and they'll be fine, but not on a .60 sized plane. I still can't figure out what Hobby People and Modeltech were thinking when they did this. Evidently they didn't test the plane with the undersized retracts before sending it out for sale. If they did test it out and saw that the gear was weak, and decided to send them anyway, shame on them!

It's not that the retracts are of poor quality, it's because they are for a .40 sized plane. Put them on a plane they were made for and they'll be fine, but not on a .60 sized plane. Well Yard I understand what your saying but for $200.00 I didn't expect alot in the way of retracts. Maybe that is why most people change out the hardware and add glue to most of the ARF's we buy. I figure if I wanted it to be like I built it then I would build it myself so not much for me to gripe about.
