I got everything glued up and covered yesterday. Then I found out that I will have to take some weight off of the tail to balance. I removed the pilot and I'm going to replace it with a foam one. I also went with a heavier aluminum spinner to help with balancing. The DA-120 is 0.6 lb. lighter then the 100 that I took out. The cans were mostly in font of the C/G and the weight of the tuned pipes are somewhat behind the CG. I moved my batteries all the way up front and they were marginally balanced on the tail heavy side with the No Limitz Spinner and the pilot. It balanced on the back of the wing tube. That's why I'm going with the aluminum spinner and foam pilot. This should get me in the ball park so I can have some adjustability without adding dead weight.

Got the floor back in the cockpit. Not putting a pilot in there for now. I'll due that over the winter. Finished up the bottom with some louvers for cooling and put some rubber hose stinger extensions on the pipes. Got the batteries remounted and the plane balanced. The plane's been ready to go since Saturday but this time of year the weather is hit and miss around here. Maybe I can get it out for the maiden today before the club meeting.

Got out to the field today but the 15mph direct cross wind made me chicken out of flying. If the plane was trimmed out I would have flown. I did get a couple of tanks of gas ran through it in 2 hours. Learned to set the throttle curve on my radio and got the engine set to where I trust that it won't die on me. Even set an Idle up on the radio. I found that it gives me a peace of mind to have higher Idle set around 1700 for flying and find 1450 to be a good landing speed with a 10 pitch prop. The needles on the engine were easy to set. I thought I would have problems setting it because of the tuned pipes but I didn't. Now all I need is a day with favorable conditions for a maiden.
The 29-10S is a big @$$ prop. The 120 is ripping it and it only has about 45 minutes of running time on it.

Hey Doug . Guess what? I'm running Red Line Oil right out of the box on this engine. It seams to be running pretty good already. It's really smooth till it gets on the pipe. No break in prop either.
You need one of these planes in your hangar. It'll make you throw rocks at your other planes. LOL.

Your driving distance to Seattle. Take the family to see the Space Needle and take the package home with you.
That's just how my mind works.![Big Grin](https://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
That's OK. Come to Joe Nall and you can fly mine. You'll make the trip to the Space Needle after that.

Joe Nall will be pretty close to the same distance for you as Atlanta. This Year is going to be even more fun. Some of my friends are already talking about going. I'm talking about from all around the country and Puerto Rico. It be kind of neat to get some Canucks down there to. We can Talk Hockey. It'll be all Greek to the rest of them. LOL.

Just an update on the Engine change. Did get a small window in the wether last weekend to fly the plane. Happy to report that the plane was slightly nose heavy. That means I can fine tune the balance for IMAC.
The engine ran great on the ground but had problems in the air. It was 50 F outside and I guess I did to good of a job on baffling. Couldn't build any heat in the cylinders. I had it to rich. Especially on the low end. I had a chance to ground tune some more on it yesterday and got it to run great with one problem. The low end being so lean wouldn't allow the engine to idle without Quitting. I settled on a little burble in the mid range and a 1700 rpm idle. I'll just have to keep it there for a while till the engine breaks in. It has about a gallon through it but with how rich I had it for most of it, it didn't do any good for break in. I'm starting my 5 gallon count with the next flight.

Just got back from a weekend of flying in North Carolina. I had a chance to wring the Extra out. The problem that I had with the engine not running warm enough was cured by changing plugs. It goes to show you that once you foul the plugs they are best to be replaced.Ha 0 issues with the engine and how it ran. It is hard to describe flying this plane with the 120 and tuned pipes. If I had to choose one word, it would be " incredible" When you say unlimited vertical. It means it will climb out of sight and never slow down.
I'm Very Happy with the engine change. It made my great airplane an "Incredible" airplane. Can't wait till next IMAC Season.

It was fun. We are going to have to get together somehow to fly. Maybe Wenatchee, Washington next September.
I had a mishap with the Edge on landing. Otherwise it would have been a perfect weekend. I couldn't handle the turbulence over the runway. It was one of those days where if you were a local, then it was no problem. I think if I had come in from the other direction it wouldn't have been a problem. There is a little damage to the fuse at the landing gear and a wing tip. Almost have it fixed.

Sorry I don't get on here much anymore. I have the plane put up for the winter.
I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Hi to who ever is still around. It's getting to be flying season again. I started spring maintenance on the Extra this week. I mounted a new foam pilot in there. It only weighs a little over 1oz. The other pilot that I had in there weighed 6.5oz. The tuned pipe added weight behind the CG so I had to do something to reduce that weight. I thought this would help. I got them from Aircraft Intrnational. He was prompt in getting them to me. Had them on the 3rd day after I called. A pilot is mandatory for IMAC. So I got one for my Edge at the same time. The Edge is going to be my freestile plane if I ever get that good enough.
