I didn't get enought to be doubled. I received whats on the plane and three extras. Of course, if they sent a manual with the kit that might be helpful.
Still, the metal is so soft, you can fold them in half with your fingers with little effort.

So is Hobby King the only supplier of the 30cc version? Does that version come with oleo struts for the gear or just wire?

The other supplier of the 30cc version is Giant Model Products. However, they are currently out of stock. The Hobby King version does not come with oleo struts and I can tell you from experience that the wire gear SUCKS!!!!!!

Hello,

I'm following this thread with a lot of interest (I'm a GeeBee lover!). I should order a 50cc version when restocking on GMP web site. As I understood, a lot of weight is needed on the nose of the plane for a correct centring. Like a lot of modelers, I don't like to add weight on my planes...[:'(] So, the solution is to put a heavy monster engine. It's a bit disappointing to install a 80cc engine on a 81" plane...![] Is there someone of you who has put a 50cc engine with some additional weight ? If yes, how many weight has been necessary for a correct centring ?

Thank you for your response,

I have the 50cc version. I'm running a GF55 II twin up front. I've had to mount the 2 A123 battery packs in the engine cowl. I fitted fiber glass extensions on the top of the firewall and fitted the batterys to them. They are sitting over the Cylinder heads. This works for me. The only issue I have with it is tracking. I think the fin is no big enough. I wants to crab all over the place. Your forever kicking it straight with rudder.

Cheers

Check the wheel pants. If they are off just a little....... the plane will crab!!

Grossy, this is an interesting coment. I was also thinking to put a 50cc twin gas engine, why not the new DLE-60 ? I'm using Lipo packs only (still fighting against the weight ! [>:]) Positioning some lead on the spinner should allow to have a very limited additional weight.

Regarding Robart gears, any news ?

What DLE-60?? Talk of it, but have not seen it!! The GF 55 Twin has more than enough power. Carefull with adding weight to the end of your crank shaft, can lead to other issues. Especially if anything is not running ture, or out of balance.
Re; Crabbing. It does it both ways. All depends on which way you are turing. I have a 97" Gee Bee senior with a DL-100 up front. The wheel spats are much bigger and no crabbing issues.
In my opinion, the wheels spats having nothing to do with crabbing.....

I have the 30cc from GP Modles and I love it. Put 11 flights on it this weekend and used up a whole gallon smoke fuel with a BME 50cc 22x8 prop

GPM has been there for me any time I needed anything Wich is way more than I can say for Hobbyking

My mods; put fuel tank almost over CG so I can fit smoke tank in, no lead, added hardwood blocks in wing to use 4-40 pull pull cables to keep wire gear strong 4.5 in tires. This bird will land nice and slow like my 540 Aroworks Edge just use rudder and keep the prop speed at 21-2200 and it's very graceful

Here are the new gas engines from DLE and DA, should be available for this summer:

- DLE 35R
- DLE 55R
- DLE 60 twin

- DA35
- DA100 twin inline
- DA70 twin

Regarding DLE 35R and DLE 55R, main changes are a new spark orientation (to the back) and the muffler connected to the back of the cylinder.

Putting some weight inside the spinner should be possible. The most important is to add a limited weight (no more than ~10oz) and keeping a good balance. In fishing hobby shops, we can find some cylindrical lead with a hole in the center (called "carp" or "watch" leads).

If you need nose weight Vess and Hobbyking sell a balancing plate that gose outside the prop with a bunch of holes so you can put Allen cap screws to help get rid of vibrations

and some more pictures.

9th pic fitting struts to wing
10th pic attaching lower anchor points to wire bracing
11th pic wing anchor points for wire bracing
12th pic fusalage anchor point for wire bracing. I made the aluminum attachment that spreads the load from the 4 wires to the two blind nuts in the fusalage.
13th pic I found that the gear want to fold forward when the plane sits on them. To solve this I made the aluminum braces you see going between the two struts.
14th pic all braced and ready for maiden flight.

I am going to deal with installing the paints after the maiden. Meanwhile I am adding a layer of carbon vail and glass composite to strength them.

I have a question. I fly the 30cc. Needs a little repair work. Wonder what type red covering is used. Unlike monocoat, ultracoat oracoat which has a transparent adhesive, the original covering has a "white" adhesive backing to it. It is not a covering that needs to be pealed off. The adhesive is white. Any ideas? Thanks Dave. Sharpeye22, an incredable job constructing the struts. How do you intend to cover them. Copy originals in fiberglasss ?

I will undo the assembly and reassemble them inside the original paints. Right now I am reinforcing the paints like others have done with carbon vail and fiberglass.

Today I am bring it to the flying field to test taxi the plane. If all goes well the next time will be the maiden.

Hey Euro,
Gary says the covering is oracover. However, as you have noted, it does not have the white backing like the stock stuff does. I haven't found a perfect match but the Ultracoat Flame Red is pretty close. I used it to fix mine although without the opaque white backing it is not an exact match.

Has anyone thought of, or modified there Gee Bee with carbon fiber gear built into the fusalage? I know it's not scale but it is more functional. No wires needed, no struts, transport is easyer, setup is easyer. I did that with my 50cc lion after a few landings the wing mounted gear just gave out. I'm thinking of doing that with the Gee Bee.
