Gerry,
Looks like the drop in replacement gear for the 50 cc still aren't available . I'll give Robart a call and see what's taking them so long. What about the upgraded stronger cowl ? We bought this plane at Toledo in April and would really like to fly it before winter.
thanks

Ok guys I just finest mine and maiden it this morning. I had to add 1 lb of weight to the nose to get the cg at 5 3/4 in. I also had everything installed on the firewall and the engine block. It took off easier then any other plane I have flown. After reading all the complaints about how hard it was to fly I was really pleased with the flight. It had no knife edge in the turns. But I did have to give it some right rudder trim. Two clicks of up and one right arleron. I was able to do most manuvers with no problem, even a four point roll. The landing was pretty easy with no surprise"s. I am thinking that maybe a little right thrust just might be the right answer.

Well Guys I final got a chance to re-fly the GB R3 again. I moved the battery's Wright forward to near above the Cyl heads. C&G is now good, stick with the 5"!!
Now in my opinion, this is not an Aircraft for beginners. It has a strange trait. It likes to fly crabbing. Either way it does not care. Now don't get me wrong this fly's well. Throw to around and it will do anything you can do anything that a good sports plane will do. Loops, figure 8's, spins, rolls all great. How ever try and line it up for a high speed pass and this is were the fun starts. Bring it around and line it up with the strip and it's crappy side ways down the strip. You have to kick the tail around with the rudder. I also had to dial some rudder in to the Ail. For on a Ail turn it would lift the nose, so this made it interesting as well. The rudder has heaps of authority. Flat turns with rudder only not a problem, Knight Edges, hardly had to use the rudder. The only thing I can think off that causing this effect, is the lack of fin!! The tail just does not want to come around.
Mind you the GF-55II Twin sounds great, but its not overly quick. It's swinging a 21X12. Looks great in the air and it's so light, so just floats on in for a landing.
Re; ground handling. It requires a well trimmed grass strip. Ours had just been mowed and it still struggled with the clover.
Don't get me wrong. I love flying this, for it sounds and looks great. Throw it around and it will do it with ease. How ever it's not as good as my 97" Gee Bee Y with a DL-100 up front. This things fly like a ***** cat. Just crappy landing gear!!
Sorry no photos. I forgot the camera.
Cheers

Thanks for the info.!! We are trying different ways of the wheel pants... Now..... in doing this, we are able to change the way it flys!!! YES, If the wheel pant is off just a 1/16 it affects the way it flies... YES, IT CRABS!!!! I am calling Robart in the morning to see where they are at!!! I hope you ALL are doing the same!!

I don't think it's the wheel pants. Like I said, I also have a 97" Gee Bee Y with a DL-100 upfornt. This aircraft has bigger wheel pants and it has no issuse that the R3 has.
I still think it comes down to the size of the Fin!!
Still love this Aircraft, but it just has a weird little trait. Everybody still stops and watch's it do it's thing.
Cheers

I left several messages inquiring about placing an advance order on one of these that are on backorder. I got no answers, so I moved on to another bird. Didn't need one, just wanted one. Maybe I'll try again next year.

Iknow this thread is mostly about the 50cc version. However, I have noted some comments about the 30cc version. I am looking at geting the 30cc version and was wondering if there are struts available for it.

I went ahead and called them. They told me that they should have the 50cc version ready by the end of December, but that the 30cc version would not be started till some time after the 50cc version was done.
