Default Idle problem

Hi all.

Hope you guys can help. Is it needed to install an on board glow driver for an invert mounted YS engine? I got it to idle at 2400 RPM
for about 10 seconds before it dies out. Tried adjusting every settings, but no luck. All seals and diaphragm are new. I also noticed that fuel
was leaking out of the carb when I try to prime it for starting, but no fuel get sucked into the combustion chamber. I had to flip the plane upside down
to get it to start, then flip it back. What can be wrong? Thanks in advance for all the tips.

Not being familiar with YS engines and you didn't state which plane
you had it mounted in, I would guess that the center of the tank is
possibly too high for the inverted engine, a problem with a lot of the
ARF's now days the tanks are mounted wrongly for inverted engine
installations, the tank center needs to be no higher than the center of
the spraybar of the carb, otherwise fuel will siphon out through the carb
and you won't get a reliable idle or will find the top end also hard to keep set.
Check the tank would be my first suggeation to try and cure the problem
you have stated having.

Hi Bill.

Thanks for the input. YS engine runs with a pressurized system, so tank location is not really a problem.
I just don't know if the on board glow driver is a necessary item for inverted engine due to slow idle RPM
and gravity that may loaded the fuel too rich in the chamber.

It sounds like you have the settings wrong. The regulator screw should be flush with it's housing and you should start with the idle needle at factory setting and high about 2 turns out. I assume you are using an OS F plug. You may want to haul it to the SAMs field, they run alot of YS engines there and are great guys to hang out with.

Yf i think you are close to right with what you are doing, remember that oil sits in the glo hole around the plug and with my inverted saitos i have to the glo heat on for 30secs and then give the engine a bit of a caning to get the plug red hot aso it will idle long enough to taxi out and get in the air.The rest is easy as the fuel level goes down in the tank and the engine leans out a bit, easy to throttle back on finals and know the engine will idle in the air reliably then, good luck.

I'm with speedracerntrixie, sounds like either the regulator is too rich or there is junk under the seat.

Bye the way, YS engines like lots of nitro; they're easier to tune, turn more top end RPM, will idle slower and my little 110's will idle at 1700 RPM on 30% heli fuel....

If you have more problems, suggest you visit the YS support forum here.

Yf, when i mounted my 110fz inverted on my pattern plane i had to adjust high - low then regulator to slowly bring it to where it needed to be but has been running great since so i don't think its the way its mounted. Just make sure each time u adjust the regulator you do the high and low again.
