Default Really need help with plane selection!!!!

I am moving from my electric high wing to a mid wing sport in the 60 size range. I have already purchased a Magnum .91 4stroke to be delivered today.
I generally speaking prefer to go as large as possible in a plane, just cause I like bigger planes!! Now I am really interested in the Seagull Edge 540 60 plane, and the specs for this plane say that a .91 to 1.25 4 stroke is right for this plane. But from what I am reading the .91 4 stroke will only "barely" fly this plane. I do not need to be able to do all the 3D stuff but I do want the ability to come close to hovering..... I have read where people say they can hover with this set up (15x4 prop)but only on a good day can they pull verticaly out of a hover. I am going back and forth between the Seagull edge 540 60(68" span)and the Pheonix 330s (64" span). But I am hearing that the .91 4 stroke may be slightly under powered for even the smaller Pheonix plane??? Anyone with experience with either of these planes with a .91 size 4 stroke please shed some light for me so I can make a good decision in the plane I buy...

Thanks Loads for any help!!!!</p>

om what you write, the planes you mention are much more of a handful than you are used to. A 4-Star 60 or similar would be a great start point at this time.

I cant comment on your experience level with respect to the airplanes you are moving to. However, I have a Phoenix Extra 330s which I am about to setup. I have seen and flown the Phoenix Yak 60" which is exactly the same airplane and it will barely hover with a 91FX / 95AX 2c. So I am setting up with a 120ax. A collegue of mine has the same airplane witha 120ax and he is currently testing a huge 18x6 prop with which it hovers at 40% throttle.

Likewise, the Seagull Edge will require atleast a 90 size 2c to barely hover. I am not sure its a 3D airplane.

At your experience level and a 91 4c, I suggest a smaller airplane. Have a look at the Reactor 46, UCD 60, H9 Frenzy , H9 Showtime, H9 Funtana x50 etc. These will be best for a 3D setup to transition from sports to 3d i.e. learn the airplanes with the low throws and sports setup and progress gradually towards 3D. Just remember to reinforce everything, especially the LG block and firewall. If you want to quickly get into 3D and get something more rugged and easy to repair and dont mind the profile look, you should get a Mojo40 for that engine

If your high wing is the limit of your experience, I would stay away from all those quoted. Get a hanger-9 Pulse 60 or a great planes Revolver 70, Fly the pants out of it this season, move on to the Edges & Extras next year Both will be fine on a four stroke 90. Fame & Glory do not come quickly

Gizmo hit the nail on the head. 4* 60 is the plane for you. Like he said ,"fly the pants off of it & get a"fancy plane" next year.

Ok you guys a confussing the crap out of me. My question was with regards to the ability of the .91 4 stoke motor I have already purchased to provide adequit power to the two planes listed. I have past experience with flying and have been through a 40 size trainer and also a40 size low wing sport plane. I am getting back into it and have flown the crap out of the 55" trainer I currently have. SkyPilot seems to think that the .91 4 stoke will be fine in the Edgs 540 60 and the Pheonix 330s whereas others say that at least the egde 540 60(68" wing)would be moderatly if not severaly under powered with that engine.. The hanger-9 pulse 60 is bigger, heavier, and more expensive than the two planes I was asking about??? I do not want to go the 4-Star 60 route as that is a kit and I am interested in ARF's. Does anyone have any thoughts on the Seagull egde 540 46 model. This is a 60" wiing span and suggests a .60 to a .80 4stroke. Would the .91 4 stroke be too much for it. It is a 6.5 to 7 lb planes. As of yesterday I saw a video of the Pheonix 330s a 7 lb plane 64" wing span with the very engine I have in it (Magnum .91 4stroke) and it seemed to fly very nicely. May not do unlimited vertical climb or even hover for a long time but it did hover for abit and these planes seem to glide forever... sometimes hard to get them down as they want to glide right through the runway!! That plane (ARF) can be had for $125.00 right now.

We did our best, you seem to be all over the board.....weights are what is going to determine performance. My ultra Stick has unlimited vert. with a Mag. 91 as did a U-Can-Do 60 same engine.

To hover and pull out with authority you need more than 1 to 1 more like 2 to1! The mag .91 will make maybe 11 pound
of thrust on a 15/4. I don't think you will get true 3 D with your combo's but they will be aerobatic

Doclove524, dont get worked up. To fly pattern and sports you need an equal sized engine. The Phoenix Extra will do very well with the 91 4c like I said but if you want to hover with authority you need a larger engine. Even for sportstype flying, the 91 will do but wont have unlimited vertical, you will have to manage your airspeed in a climb.

The Seagull Edge 540 60 is a better flying airplane than the 46. It will have the same issues with that engine as the Extra. The Seagull Edge 46 is strictly sports and not without its issues. The 91 4c wont be overpowered with it but you will need to check the CG.

We recommended the Reactor and UCD because they are 3D airplanes and therefore easy to fly at low speeds and throws. Of course anything of that type is going to float. But you will find them easier to land with a 4c than a 2c due to the lower idle speed

Check out the U-Can-Do planes. They fly great and are pretty capable planes, and fly well on a Magnum .91 4-stroke.

I like to have enough power in my planes, and if you're talking about trying to hover, you need all the power you can get, especially when learning.

To me, there is nothing worse than setting up a plane, especially with a nice engine, and finding out you wished you had more power. Totally kills the spirits.
