Hey guys,

I recently purchased the Right Flyer for my nephew, and was wondering if anybody had any tips, concerns with the arf. Plan on using a OS40 sf, and a jr 400 radio. Thanks in advance, Loren

LOREN,

I'm over the hump in PAHRUMP.

I have three trainer aircraft. a GOLDBERG EAGLE, a RIGHT FLYER 40 And another that I traded for uncovered I don't know what it is.
The RIGHT FLYER is the smoothest of the three. My 8 year old flies it and IT is his preference between the three.
We fly it with a OS 46 LA.

One tip that I can give you is check the firewall for the glue joint! My first one literally fell out on take off one day. GLOBAL said they didn't know anything about the problem but I read a review in one of the magazines that mentioned this same problem a few years back! This one had a bad glue joint also! I re-glued it with some epoxy. They painted the inside of the fuselage before they installed the firewall, then glued the firewall to the paint. ( I'm talking about the original one here)

Put floats on it and hit LAKE MEADE, YOU'LL LOVE IT!

loren,
This plane flys very well(I have an OS .46LA installed) but there are a few areas you should consider re-enforcing. The first is the front landing gear block. Mine snapped the block on the second landing. The main gear block also should have some fiberglass or carbonfiber added. The wing joiner is also a weak spot,I replaced mine with a piece of aluminum and then glassed the center section. Other than that the plane seems to be assembled pretty well. I think I paid about $90.00 for this ARF, it's a nice little plane for the money. Hope this helps.

I've got one that I picked up at the last big Hobby People sale. I think I paid $60.00 for it. I'm not really happy with the wing center section. I'll end up 'glassing it. Biggest problem is, what kind of covering did they use? I've got tons of wrinkles all over the plane. I can't get them out with an iron or heat gun. Is it shelf paper? Other than that it's a pretty nice plane. I'll fly it when I get around to doing the wing.

You all know that the cheaper planes all come with shelf paper for covering. the better plane will have econocoal on them and some have ultra. but all the under a 100.00 will mostly have shelf paper. the rest of the plane will hold up good with all the hanger rash they get..

Is the plane good enough to warrant stripping it down and recovering or should I just sell it to help finance some of the dozens of other projects I have going?

If you are going to keep the plane and teach other flyer or kid or grand kids then yes you could do a cover job and do it right..

That's the plane I learned on, and my dad is currently learning on. I bought it used and ground looped it a couple of times. Survived well. Had to glue the wing back together. Glassing would be a good idea.

It has a Magnum 46. Flies great!
