Default Shorten nose to move cg back

I need some help from one of you engineers out there.

I am changing engines on a big Stick. The new engine will be heavier than the old one. I already had to put the battery and a little lead in the tail to balance the old engine. Is there any kind of formula out there to determine how much to shorten the nose to get the cg right?

I'm already planning on putting the elevator and rudder servos in the tail. I may also eliminate the Fults nose gear which is heavy.

I kept my GP Big Stick 60 at it's original length when switching from glow to gas, but changed it to a tail dragger l/gear arrangement, relocated the elevator and rudder servos to the tail and relocated the Rx battery rearward to offset the additional weight of the gasser, which kept the CG in it's original position.

That would be great if that works. What gas engine did you put on yours?

I'm using an MLD-28 (since I have several). Looks like the weight is close to the same. Thanks for the info. I have two of these sticks. One with a YS-110 and the one I'm changing over has a YS-91. Will be interesting to see how this works out. The fuel costs will certainly drop!

I've shortened the nose on every stick I've had. Basically chopped it down about 1/3rd and built a new fire wall.<div>Far better solution than using lots of tail weight. And looks FAR FAR better to!</div><div>Last model was a MT Joss Stick with a 1.20 Surpass. Chopped a third and STILL had to add some tail weight.</div><div>Next time I'd do it at the half way point.</div><div>I'll post some pics when I get to the office.</div><div>You'll be sold on the improved looks alone!</div>
