Default 3D warbirds

Okay, I converted one of your giant Su-Du-Koys to an F4F Wilcat with an Brison 2.4 Fuse is scratch built ,but used the wing and tailfeathers from your kit. You can see it on www.rcwarplanes.com. Just look under wildcat. Final weight about 19 lbs. Gets a lot of attention at the field.Been flying it about 6 months. Neat idea, but some of the local warbird meets frown on the profile at there meets. Thks Rich

Default Hawker Hurricane

Matt,
The Hawker Hurricane is one of the most neglected scale subjects in this hobby, as far as kits and ARF's go. You'd do us all a great service if you came out with one of those in any size 56" or up.
The full size Hurricane had such a great reputation, I could never understand why someone hasn't put out an ARF, or even a decent sized kit of the Hurc for us builder types. You've got to love a fabric covered WW2 bird for a scale subject.
Built your Balsa Nova by the way, well done kit.

Default Giant Warbirds

I would have to go with the stuff you dont see everyday. American,
hellcat, brewster buffalo, Marauder
British,
Beaufighter,Mosquito, Firefly
Russian,
Migs and Yaks
German,
He 70, He 112, Fw 189, Do 27
Japanese,
Toryu, Ki61 Hein, J2m Raiden, Ki-44 Shoki

I like the idea of almost ready to cover as well, that way you can individualize the plane. Flaps, no panel lines or fake cartoon covering, Retracts (nothing worse then a warbird fly by at 100mph with the gear down)

There is a few for more for ya.

A P 38 arf (twin 60 to 90 size) would be nice..or a me109, B 25, hellcat.,
havent seen any of these in a nice arf...
please forget the foam wheels....most of us toss those in the can during kit inspection..glass fuse's are nice too....I live in the desert and cant stand a plane that wrinkles.
cant wait to see what you guys come up with.....and thanks for asking us what (we) would like to see....Rick

Default Something New

I hope you're still referring to this thread, because I have strong feelings about this.

First of all, I agree that your kits should be ARCs. I just won't buy warbird ARFs because the schemes invariably s*ck uncontrollably. Most warbird flyers are aviation history buffs first, modellers a close second. We want to ressurrect our lost heroes to the final, loving detail. ARFs right now don't allow that with their awful covering schemes, so the serious warbirder sticks to the kits.

Secondly, with all due respect to the other posters to this thread, Spitfires, Me 109s, Zeros and Stukas are like a**holes... everybody has one. I would suggest going to Towerhobbies.com and looking up every single scale warbird in their inventory. Then don't make it. Here is a short list of ARF/ARCs you'll never find:

TBD Devestator - SB2C Helldiver - F4F Hellcat - P61 Black Widow - A26 Invader - P38 Lightning - Messerschmidt Me163 - Japanese "Kate" Dive Bomber... The list goes on.

The point is that ARFs are not special in any way. Offer me a high quality ARF or (preferably) ARC of something new and unique that I can show off to the boys at the flying field, and I'll pay almost anything you want.

Finally, don't scoff at .60 sized models. .40 size? Sure, scoff away. But some of us like .60 sized models for their afforadability.

Default ARF Warbirds

May I have some input (pro and con) on the acceptability of a .60 powered, 80" OV-10 Bronco ARF? If made as an ARF, what color schemes would you like to see? How about an ARC? Thanks.

rich- i would like an arc ov10, but would recommend that the outer wing panels be removable and that the rest of the plane be set up so you can transport it assembled. that would eliminate plugging in all those servos.

one of the guys at our field has built both of your broncos and the smaller one flies real well. he has the other one done but hasn't flown it yet.

i would prefer the spring air retracts.

Default OV-10 80 in. Bronco

Rich,

I have seen one of yours done in a NASA scheme, I believe. That is a good one! Also one done in Vietnam era colors (Marines had them and also Air Force, I think). Anyway, the NASA or Test Board one with a lot of white, blue and orange is a killer! Please hurry up and get this one out--gotta have it!

Sam

P.S. A larger (~100 incher) one would be even better. Think about it.

Thats a big "Rodger Dodger" I'll take a big one myself!
Put mounting rails in it for SpringAir's.

Just send it to Sheldon's and I'll pick it up.

Default My Choice,

P-40
Hellcat
Wildcat
Avenger
FW-190
P-47

Nothing smaller than 80" bigger the better, solid gear mounts, ARC or fabric covered unpainted, G-38 sized or bigger.
Priced to make you money and still fair to us.

Default ARF Warbirds....

I vote for the P-38 in an AFFORDABLE ARF made for 60-90 size 2 stroke w/80" or greater span. a FW-190 w/80" span for small gasser or large glow and last but not least a 80" P-40 with the same requirements as the 190. I agree with leaving most of the hardware to the builder on the ARFs and offer ARCs too w/no hardware for those finiky types.

Hawker Hurricane, and P-47 Razorback 60-90(2c) size. We love them all but these are difficult to find in ARF form!

Thanks for asking,

Me109 for sure it is a mean looking airplane there are plenty of mustangs out there... and please put the landing gear in the proper place... the same with the Spitfire.. dont fudge .. those planes are unique in their landing stance... it doesnt take that much more time to get used to it ,,... thanks !

My vote would be for the P-51H which is the ultimate Mustang. Most fliers seem to like the Mustang and not many are aware of this last version which was far superior to the "D", which was a great airplane in its own right.
If you are interested in producing this version I have some material which might be of help.
Barring the "H", how about a P-51B with a Malcolm hood?
I also think a SCALE P-40E would be popular.

80-90", assume G-38 as median power plant; ARC or solid colors for user detailing.

Set up for off shelf retracts, standardize hardware, either quality or no hardware at all. I think all of us hate that commie crap we keep seeing as 'included hardware'. It's obvious the chineese don't fly R/C.

Sectionalize the wing for at field assembly... transport is always an issue w/ giant warbirds. you want your customers to take more than one of your planes to the field (as in BUY annother) you better make it easy for him to load 'em and transport 'em.

Everybody markets a pony, jug, spit and F4U. So yer prolly gonna have to do at least some of those.. toss in some more sqid planes like a FM-2 or a F6F-5 and there's all those luftwhiner loser planes.. chit; just do a TA-152 and a Gustav, and they'll be happy. And wot the hell: the rookis and italians have been ignored for years... a Yak-9T or a LA5-FN and a Macchi C-205 would be kinda hinkey. I suspect anthing with meatballs on it would be confused with a zero, so I tend to coast right by the IJN and IJA planes, myself. (always wonder if the guy flyin it likes sushi)

And you might wanna consider some less threatning planes for knock-keed old farts (like me) who love giants, but can't see fer crap and don't want to fly around the pattern at 150mph makin rat-a-tat-tat noises..... say maybe a vultee BT-13 'Vibrator' or maybe a (god forbid) another PT-19.. but do it as a USAAF PT-26 in grey/silver.. gawd, anything other than the (gag me) done to death yellow and blue w/ cocardes. OTOH, ther's a lot to be said for an uncomplicated, stable; fixed gear subject from the era.. which is why we see a heluva lotta freakin PT-19's at warbird meets.

FWIW..

80" Bearcat in Navy colors that will weigh around 12 lbs, go unlimited with a OS1.60 and cost less that $300 with retracts/flaps installed! See, I'm so reasonable! Okay, I will be a bit unreasonable and also ask for a decent canopy that wont implode on itself or crack on it's first flight.

I would have to say Bf109. Perhaps do a later model at least an F as far too many American kit companies seem to focus on the early E model.

<---- A good model to do would a Bf109G6 as in my avatar, the bulges look cool.

Another good plane would be an FW190A, the radial engine model. These are very rarely seen.

An early P40B/C done up in AVG colors would be cool.

Please dont make a P51D, there are too many allready in every imaginable size, shape and "exciting" shade of silver....
