Default Spectrum DSM Receiver

Hello fellow flyers, I am looking for a receiver for my older spectrum DX6 DSM model. If anyone has one new or good used they would like to sell I sure could use one for a set up plane I want to give to my grandson and teach him to fly. Thanks

Those shown won't work with the DX6, he needs a DSM receiver, not a DSM2 or DSMX.

I have an old AR6000 I could sell you. PM me for info.

Thanks for clearing that up John. I misread the post and thought he was looking for the old DSM2 not DSMX.

He is actually looking for an old DSM receiver. Not a DSM2 or DSMX.

Funny, Spektrum reps say the older receiver are backwards compatible. I know mine work with my transmitters, DX7 & DX8 . In fact I've even used the Older "Orange receiver" with the newer DX8 transmitters. What does not work (out of the box) is a receiver that has more channels than the transmitter. But, it could be that I've been ripped off and neither transmitter is DSM2 or DSMX.. Does anyone know how to determine this?

Say what??????

I'm not even sure what you're asking, but will attempt to answer what I think you wanted to know;

"older receiver are backwards compatible", DSM2 rx's are compatible with all the tx's EXCEPT a DX6 which is DSM only.
"I know mine work with my transmitters, DX7 & DX8", the ONLY way that can happen is if all your rx's are DSM2 because unless it's been upgraded, the DX7 will NOT run in DSMX mode but ALL of the DSMX rx's can run in DSM2.
"In fact I've even used the Older "Orange receiver" with the newer DX8 transmitters", I've not used the "Orange receiver" but from what I know about them, they are ALL DSM2. If you have an older DX7 tx, it will run all the newer rx's in DSM2 but not DSMX rx's since those DSMX rx's will run in DSM2 mode. Your DX7 will also run the original AR6000 rx which is a DSM protocol, it takes quite a bit longer for the tx/rx to link up and the tx batteries don't last as long since the DSM mode requires more power. An AR6000 is the ONLY rx that an original DX6 tx will run, a DX6i will run all the rx's the DX7 will. The DX8 will run all DSM2 and DSMX rx's but WILL NOT run the DSM AR6000 rx.

As to why you're having difficulties running higher channel count rx's than your tx's have, I don't have any idea. Those rx's should bind to your DX7 and DX8 just fine but you will only have the number of channels on your tx available.

Now if your DX7 tx is actually a new DX7s OR it's been upgraded to DSMX, then the whole story changes some....

Zeeb,

Thanks for the clearification. Yes, My DX7 has been upgraded. What would be nice is wher in the transmitter we can read the software version and how to relate it to the functionality of theTX/RXs. You know as we get older we forget things -like did I upgrade or not :-)

Yeah well I understand what you're saying.... lol

Okay if your DX7 was upgraded, the only real change to what I said above is that it won't run AR6000 rx's anymore but it can run in DSMX mode. If you're mixing DSM2 and DSMX rx's, be careful with the satellite rx's as those will not interchange e.g. a DSMX main rx MUST have DSMX satellite/s and likewise a DSM2 main rx MUST have DSM2 satellite/s.

Your DX8 will tell you which version of the software it's running and whether it's DSM2 or DSMX, the DX7 with the upgrade I'm not sure about what they might have changed. On my JR 12X when it was upgraded they added a small "X" to the label and when it's turned on there is a small "X" which appears in the upper right corner of the display. You cannot select which mode it runs in nor will it tell you what it's using. The only way to tell is that when initially turned on, it will take 3 to 5 seconds for it to link up with a DSM2 rx. If the rx is DSMX then the tx and rx will link up almost instantly when you turn them on.

Hey John thanks for the post. I just traded this Tx this weekend, but the new owner may still be interested in the Ar6000. What price would you be asking?? Thanks
Rick.
