Hi everyone,
It has been a while since I have been back in the forum and flying and need to get some feedback on what is the current trends.
I want to get a replacement radio to my old and reliable JR 8103 radio, but there are so many new radios and technologies that I am not sure what is today's equivalent of this radio.
Also I want to get into two new project, one electric and one Gas powered scale model.
The objective is to reuse some of the many components that I have laying around, for instance I have a good lipo charger and some 3S2200mha and 6s6000mha batteries from my helicopters that I could reuse.
As for the Gas project, I have a old 3w42i; DA50; Zenoah 26 in great conditions that can be placed to good use.
I am thinking maybe a Large Cub, or a world war fighter, but not sure what is hot and would work well with these engines.
so to some up: advice on new radio (JR is the preference); scale 1/4 scale ARF Gas plane and an electric project.

Current trends are changing so fast, that what is presently current will not be tomorrow or the day after. As far as you choice of radios is concerned, JR has always been a good brand and if you are happy with them, then stay happy and stick with JR. Which model radio is another question ! That will depend on what you need it for now and any future needs, plus the size of your wallet. Personally, I have always used Futaba and at this point in life, will not be changing over to another brand.
So many 1/4 scale models out there, I would not even know where to tell you to start looking. I think you are going to have to do a lot of research to find a model that you are happy with. If you are just getting back into the RC hobby then I would not opt for a war bird project, but something that is much easier to fly like a Cub that you have already mentioned. Doing some research you will find plenty of models for the engines that you have mentioned.

Thanks for the feedback, was starting to feel even more outdated than my flight gear with the lack of response on the forum.
As for the cub idea that is exactly where I am heading. I have a hangar 9 Super Cub 1/4 scale ( white and red scheme) powered with a Zenoah G26 that i am fixing the damage that sustained during the 6 year of storage. Quite looking forward to that. Just have one problem, can not find the wing tube and can not find anywhere the WorldTex fabric used, as I need to recover the rudder and I see that this model has been discontinued and horizon does not carry parts for it.
second project is also restoring my Kangkle Laser 2000 with the DA50. Also need some parts, new cowl, flying wires for tail section and also a wing tube. Good news is that kangke has parts in stock, so waiting on shipping cost and will place an order.
The 3rd project will probably be a war bird, looking at a 1/4 scale Mustang. I see that Top Flight and hangar 9 make them ARF, not sure which one is the best one, or if there are others to consider. I was thinking reusing my old and trusted 3W 42. It is heavy so should work well on this application.
lastly the radio, I have been looking and that is where the hobby has moved up allot. I was considering the new Spektrum 18ch, or the JR 11x but I am concerned with the new 2.4Ghz systems. I see that they have two types of modulation for this radios and various receivers. Worst case I just need to get a new Nicd battery for my JR8103. Just concerned that one day I lose the configuration on all the models and not looking to have the. Helis configured again.
