Default Bipe suggestion.

Hello everyone,
I'd like to get a bipe and I need some help from more experienced modeler.
Please consider the following requirements:
1. Has to be an ARF.
2. Has to fit a SAITO .91 4stroke engine.
3. I don't have the expertize to handle a Pitts. Something easier, slower.
4. It should not take more than 15 minutes of assembling at the field.
The winner is...?

Not a Bipe, but a plane that meets your criteria and is a dream to fly. And it assembles in less than three minutes at the airfield. Like I said, not a bipe. Has to be one of the gentlest fliers out there the Spacewalker by Great Planes and looks great in the air or on the ground. Nicest handling plane I ever had!!!!!!!

The closer to your requirements will be an Ultimate(Dave Patrick, Carl Goldert, Global), unfortanly there are not many esay ARF bipes arround. Maybe I'm wrong; who knows.

Would that be a Tigermoth, perhaps? Or any other flat-bottom winged bipe?

I believe the Great Planes Tigermoth ARF would be the closest. Check it out:

A Stearman would also be a good one, but I don't recall a ARF big enough for a .91.

Yeah I totally forget the Tigermoth, the Waco is a little more demanding in my opinion.

i have personal experiance with the Great Planes Tigermoth, i brought it in a package deal with a old club member it had many flight on then and i must have put a good 100 flights on it before i sold it, its still in the club to this day and flys at least 2x a week...

its a grate flyer and if this is your first bipe i realy sugest the Great Planes Tigermoth, its pupy on landings take offs are not to bad as long as you know how to use the rudder im not to sure on durability as this plane as "never" crashed i had 1 hard landing once with no dmg but apart from that its never had a crash (we all say when it does go in its GONA GO IN!!!)

i would say that is your best choice imo... good luck

How about a Stearsman. They are much tamer than a Pitts or Ultimate but still fun.
I know Kyosho makes a 40 sized. CHeck around for a 60.
Also check out the Hog Bipe.

The Goldberg Ultimate ARF.

It flys very well, mild or wild. Lands relatively slow. It's easy to field assemble. It permits the widest range of flying styles of all the planes mentioned so far. The Saito 91 is more than enough engine for the plane.

By the way, I fly bipes more than any other type of plane, and the Ultimate by any of the manufacturers is a good flying aircraft.

I'll ditto the CG Ultimate! Its both gentle and wild. The Tiger Moth is also excellent but only is gentle...

there are a couple better bipes out now , stearman i think by koyosho and
the GP tiger moth , i bought the tiger moth , flew it the first time yesterday in
too much wind , but it should be fine on a calm day if i can idle the 120 OS motor down enough ! the moth dosnt have the ground handling though, noses over alot , probly my motor choice was not the best , use the 90 !

i have tried my 90 OS in bipes this size , they are too small , 1300-1400 inches of wing are better for slow relaxed realistic flight .beautiful plane though !

this is why i searched here for the tiger moth , any thoughts on the CG ?
what motor did you use ? i think i may put my 120 in the space walker and
swap the 90 into the tiger moth if it wont settle down some .

I used a Magnum .91FS in my GP moth and still had to add about 4oz to the nose. Nice flyer once its trimed out.

I just started flying this spring... I purchased the WACO 60 size from Sportsman Aviaton... This thing flys very gentle landing is easy and takeoffs are a breeze... I put a Saito 100 in mine but a 91 is more then enough. Everyone loves the looks... Just turn down the throws and it is gental as can be. Also beef up the landing gear too. The ARF is easy to put together and the covering on mine was perfect. Check it out at Hobby people. I also considered the Tiger moth before I chose this one... Only problem with the Tiger Moth is transporting it. Wings are a pain to take off and put on... 45 min. The WACO is a bit smaller and will fit in my van without taking off the wings. Good Luck

Gyanni-Don't be afraid of a Pitts just because of the rep of the full-size as a squirrel. I am on my second Cermark Pitts, and thanks to Dave Patrick, the airplane takes off and lands like a baby carriage and flys like a trainer at normal control throws. Lots of my fellow club members have flown mine and there is 100% agreement. My YS1.20 makes it a rocket, but a .91 would fly it very nicely. IMHO you could fly this airplane for several years, learning your way through the list af aerobatic maneuvers. It fits in my mini-van fully assembled, but removing and remounting the wings is a matter of six bolts and ten minutes. Enjoy! JIM
