Well, GP has done it again! This bird is like the PW Extra. It's really a thing of beauty, well built, nice hardware package(all 440 rods and clevises!). I received it last night and locked myself in the garage. I'm currently looking over the destructions and it looks like they addressed all the shortages of the Pitts. The flying wires are pre-made with top notch stuff. The only thing I see at the moment is if the bird weighs 18# then the hard foam wheels gotta go!!!!!! Add a couple more hinges to each surface. The covering is even up to my standards. Completely wrinkle free out of the box. It's worthy of the DA-50 on the nose.

I just received the GP Christian Eagle as well - and it is pretty. However, this is my first foray into giant scale and I am trying to decide on an engine. Does anyone know if the BME 50 will suffice? My choices currenty include the OS FT 300, Fuji 50, and the BME 50.
I am a complete novice in the field of large planes and gas engines, and any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Ben

The BME 50 should work fine. The weight of the engine used goes a long way in determining the final weight of the plane. Lighter engines permit the movement of flight batteries and radio components for the throttle to be placed more forward, helping to keep finished weights lower.
If this is your first foray into giant scale, AND your first attempt at a high performance biplane (outside of an Ultimate), may i suggest that you have someone assist you in your first few flights who has extensive experience in both areas. This is not meant to be insulting or derogatory in any manner, but the Pitts and Christen biplanes can be a handful and come to a quick end if your not ready for them.
The reason I excluded Ultimates' is because they are easier to fly than the Pitts and Christens'. They can still bite ya though.

Hold your horses, Tex!!!!!! I have been busy so hopefully i'll post some pics, but tomorrow is a swap meet and then help my daughter move and then get stuff for the wife's pond and then......
The BME 50 or 55 would be a great motor for this. The good thing is they are stating wing loading at 28 oz/sq in @ 18#. But because of the really short tail moment this bird is still a nightmare on takeoff! Sounds like fun

So, has anyone gotten one of these flying yet?
Considering getting one, and was just curious about feedback on it, like how is the landing gear holding up...etc.

It would probably be a miracle if ones flying so soon! They have only been on the street for 2 weeks now. I've been looking it over better through the weekend and GP has done a great job. The instructions show how to put in a glow or 2 different gassers. Even I'm impressed with the covering job.
Tex, heres the start of pics!

Thanks for the pictures deputydog. I think I definitely need one of these to satisfy my appetite.
Where do you guys see the BME 55 ? All I find on their website is the 50.
How will it balance with those motors ? Will it still need lead ? Are there any servos located in th tail ? Has anybody thought of using a Gyro on the tail ? In case you have, which one ? What about a smoke system ? Is there enough room ?
Sorry for all those questions, but my LHS hasn't got one in yet so I am not able to take a look.

The BME 55 is not out yet. Apparently BME is currently working on filling the orders for the 110.
You need to call Keith at BME to get on the production list for the 55.

Yep there are servo's in the tail, 4 servo's in the wings. The fuselage is cavernous. The only thing I dont care for is the fuel tank goes forward in the nose like other smaller birds. I will move the tank back to CG and probably add smoke ( the new/improved slimline????)

I have pics of mine posted at www.goflyrc.com. I will be using DA 50 with slimline smoke system. Just about done with another bird so I hope to get going on this in the next week.

You can see a few pics at the website,
http://www.greatplanes.com/airplanes/gpma1217.html
and you can also download the manual and study it. I wish all mfg's would put their manuals online. It really helps get a feel for a new product like this. There is also already an addendum to manual posted as well.
I have a Brison 3.2 that is just sitting around waiting for a plane. Maybe this is the one. I have the G/P Pitts, and it is great on a 2.4, so I bet this Eagle will rock on a 3.2.

The BME 50 is a excellent choice, as is the DA50, Taurus52, ZDZ50, etc, etc. The Fuji50 is also a good choice, but the only draw back with it is no electronic ignition. You'd be much better off having a electronic ignition on any engine in any plane. It's just so much easier to start. Just my opinion, but I'm sure a lot of the guys/gals here will agree. With a Fuji50 or any engine with a magneto ignition, be prepared to build extraordinary muscles from flipping it a thousand times or get a big starter like the Magatron. Go electronic ignition, you won't be sorry.
As for the Christen Eagle, you mean you guys haven't flown yours yet? Just kidding. I have been comparing this to their Pitts. The dimensions are almost identical (has anyone noticed this?). I've seen a couple of the Pitts this summer, one with gas the other with glow. Both where a outstanding plane. If GP has done a good job with the Eagle like they did with the Pitts and the Patty (covering & building), I'm there! Let's hear (read) some reports when you guys get yours flying!

Serge, I took a look at your web site, and I must say that it is very nice! Great videos as well as the babe of the month. Any of you old timers or individuals who feel that a hot chick does not need to be photographed with a nice looking airplane should just stay away! As for me, well lets' just say that I bookmarked the site so I can see what November has to offer!!!!!!! Serge, keep up the great job and keep the photos coming!!!!!!!!!
