Heck, I know a couple that pays over $1200 a year (each) just to belong to the 'Golf Club', not to mention greens fees and rental of a golf cart, etc, etc... I don't like the sport myself, but I found out about the cost of some of these golf places (clubs) and it out weights what I spend in a year on R/C, easy! (And I spend way to much, but it's never really enough..)

Hi Scott
It is nice to hear of others having my problem.
What i most enjoy about the hobbie is making of New Friends like i have made in the USa.
I learnt to fly at Ray Smith's flying school in Monterey and made lasting friends.
My wife and i usually travel to the USa every year renewing our friendship with those we got to know.
At the time i learnt there was me from New Zealand a Doctor from Switzerland and a Canadian from Newfoundland, so it is a worldwide family.
Keep up the Good Spirit .
Ray

Well I see we are all together on this one. The real PHOBIA is what our wives/girlfriends will say when we come home with or have delivered to our door. My wife went to a scale meet here in Idaho and saw the size of some of the planes. You know 1/4 scale and up. She told me that I should now purchase Larger Planes.
You should have seen me jump for joy. So when I go to the North West Model trade show and swap I get to BUY Some bigger planes. All I really want is a EDGE 540 and a .60 size Heli, and a Scale WACO Bipe, and a Clipped wing. Well you all get the Idea.
Buying and selling. Buying and flying. It is all fun and one hell of a lot cheaper then drugs.

I went so far as to make up a database in excel just to track all of the planes that I want. Complete with links to the web, WS, engine reqt., etc. SICK,SICK,SICK!
I still have 13 kits in the bonus room to build, and am getting ready to cover a Tiger2

I started in January. When I finish the next few planes I'll have 10. My wife complains that I might be spending too much time on the hobby (didn't say a word about the money). And for the first time ever, I lied to her.... She asked if I stopped in at the hobby store. Just a few minutes doesn't really count, does it?

LOL Atmycabin, I chase the white ball around and then there is the Ham Radio's, the full scale flying, the R/C flying, the wood working, the 16mm film collecting, fishing, hunting and if that isn't enough I bought the 60 size P-47 before I even finshed the Vector 300S 66". Man I need help!!!

Hello All you RC addicts,
I've been an RC nut for about 16 yrs. now, and RC got me over one divirce( as a matter of face my ex-wife was the one who encuraged me to get into RC)
I have since remarried an went on with my life, my wife now is very suportive and thinks its a healty hobby.
When you got through a Divirce in my state its mandatory that you go throught marrage counciling during the 90 day waiting period. I asked the counciler if my hobby was a healthy one. The counciler who was also a shrink said to make a long story short...As long as the bills get paid then its healthy. If being in RC takes away for the important things in your life, then that not healthy.
Just make shure the morgage and other bills are paid and buy all the RC stuff you want.

So I got this G2 (simulator) since the weather is questionable most times now this time of year. My girlfriend decided to have a go at Real Flight and spent 60 min straight with a huge grin on her face!! she may be a female addict soon..

They took a disc out at C6 and your not in a 'Halo'??? Did they put titanium rods in, like a fusion?
Had to ask, had to laugh...I broke my neck four years ago, was in one of those $@#! Halo's for almost six months. Went flying with the Halo on one day, friends helped me & my equipment. They where all amazed when I landed the plane right by my feet.
Now that's a addiction!

I'm trying to picture this... A halo at the field. Either you had to fly real low or lie on your back
But lying down would help the relaxation factor until complete disorientation set in hehehe

My Doctor is the best!!!! he is a brain surgeon..Anyway the halo was only prescribed when riding in a car. yes a metal plate!QUOT!nondescript!QUOT! and titanium screws were used to fuse the two vertebra and a doner bone used to replace the disc. it was out patient and I was home the same day. now just less than two weeks all symptoms are gone, only post surgery discomfort is felt and I have more mobility now than before, ONE THING IS FELT MORE THAN ANY OTHER........I need to fly something!!!LOL.
I went out to the field the day before the procedure just to try and get my fill before going down for two weeks and drove my giant extra in nose first!!!! Damit man...It was quite a performance as described by other club members hehe but they were all very supportive in helping to get my old stick 4o ready to fly when I'm able and I have a VF 66!QUOT! extra in transit as you read this so all is well and I get released to go back to work next Tuesday.
Already trying to make final decision on my next giant bird...READ POST !QUOT!what do you think of this!QUOT! and offer suggestions.
Thanks alot guys I konw you care.
Miloh !QUOT!Stiff neck and all!QUOT!

Honest! I flew with the Halo on. If that's not a addiction to this hobby, I don't know what is. Actually I did just as you said, I flew low and far out to the horizon in front of me. The landing was a piece of cake as the plane was low any ways. I wish I had pictures of that, it had to be the best ever seen. Lots of guys & gals there to see it and even they couldn't believe the landing was that good. That was only one flight. I quit after that as the neck really hurt and I didn't think I could pull off another flight with that thing on my head!!
Miloh:
I hate to be off topic, but in a sense it really isn't as you've got to be addicted to the hobby to go to these great lengths to fly. I'm very surprised at the out patient thing though. I have the rods & screws in my back over two disc's and a bone graft from the hip. Spent ten days in the hospital, 3 months in a back brace, a year and a half recovering and now I have to have it all over again because the first fusion didn't take!
But it won't stop me from flying. I will just bring my trusty lawn chair to the field and go from there! Talk about being hooked, this is nuts! Good luck with the neck healing, take lots of calcium!

Thank God I saw this thread. I'm normal
Just got into "this" hobby about 6 months ago. Started with heli's now I'm into planes too. Lets see, I'm not as good as you guys yet, but I'm getting there. I have 2 helicopters, working on a micro plane (e-flight designs), I have a Donald 4 Seaplane waiting to be built (that's next), have Plans for an Edge 540T (Wendell Hostetler), plans on the way for an Interstate L6 (Bob Hollman), and a couple of rubber models. I think I need to build a few more kits b4 I attempt a scratch built
My wife, second marrige, is very supportive of all my hobbies, RC, Fishing, scale model building etc. My first wife wouldn't let me buy/do squat. I was a bit troubled because I want to buy a couple more plane kits, but after seeing this thread, no trouble at all
Thanks guys!!!
Joe

Sorry guys I was thinking of the wrong piece of equipment when halo was said. I assume your talking about the metal ring around the head and braces that set on the shoulders to hold the head in the proper place, correct???
Actually I had no bracing what so ever, just the foam neck brace that I'm suposed to wear when I'm riding in the car. I guess I could show the scar if anybody wants to see it !QUOT!Can't imagine anyone would!QUOT! the Doc went in from the front of my neck, removed the suspect disc in 6 pieces and replaced it with an donor bone. 4 inch scar, glued, no stitches, and repaired the torn ligaments as well. went in at 6:30 am was back home at about 3:30 and I live 1.25 hours from the hospital. All and all a very stress free experience considering what took place.
