basinbum, i built and flew an original cermark pitts (i like the red and white scale look better anyway) for three seasons and just sold it to a guy in texas and he is enjoying it now. Mine had a Saito 180 in it so i beefed it up a bit. What i believe are nessasary mods reguardless are: cover the cabanes with glass and repaint, strengthen the wing saddle area with light ply on the inside, remove the dowel it the wing and replace with a longer one (you won't believe how short it is), epoxy the gear mount area, glass the fire wall (i replaced the engine mount and strengthened the fire wall), replace the stock tail wheel assembly. In addition i moved the elevator servos to the rear, made new end srtuts and new pushrods for the top ailerons, and put solid flying wires on the tail. This all seams like alot, but it is worth it. Even after all this she is still light and agil. This plane flys and looks just great! I only sold her to help finance my bigger stuff this year. You can go to my old ad and see some of the mods. I know your question wasn't addressed to me but i do have a couple hundred flights on this type so i hope this helps. Don't know what's in the one you have, but if it's got the power, and stregthened a little, she will really amaze you and the crowd.

Alan,
What's the differance between the new and old Pitts? I'm gonna dust off a friends that has been sitting and get it flying again after about 2 years of storage. Any experiance with the old one?

The YS 140 sounds like great power for her. A guy in our club had this setup. I regrettably say, had. But it needs to be on a conventional mount and not the stock wooden one. They just don't hold up. I tried them and they will shake apart no matter what you do. I'm very serious about the wing dowel also. I was doing outside loops with mine one day and it just wasn't tracking right. I set up for a landing and on taxing over i noticed that THE BOTTOM WING WAS HANGING FROM THE END STRUTS LIKE A PARASOL! I had replaced the original end struts with ones i had made with 2 layers of aircraft ply and i think that saved my plane. I came to find that the front dowel was only 3/8 in long! It had come out and then the back bolts snapped off! Now that also says something about the strength of her wings also. Cermark has done a lot right with this plane also.

How's a YS 140 sound? Thanks Ram, I'll check out all the stuff you mentioned.
