Default CA hinges on GP G202

I am up to hinging the control surfaces on my 1/4 scale GP G202

Who has used the CA hinges as supplied in to kit?

If you used them have you had any problems with them.

Thanks in advance

Never have a problem when I seal the hinge line with clear Ultracote.

I dont't know what I did wrong but I was running the engine on the ground without the wing on the body just running the RPM'S up and and lo and behold the rudder fell to one side breaking all but one hinge. Went and bought the large Du Bro hinges and made a piano hinge out of them let me see it fall to the side again.

Thanks Guys,
I have decided to use Dubro Heavy Duty pinned hinges and expoxy them in. I will also seal all the gaps.

You're probably lucky that's all you broke. You should never run an engine without the wing attached. The wing dampens the airflow a little, but mainly it is a vibration absorption mechanism!!!

It's just easier to put good quality hinges in now rather than latter.... cuz the CA hinges have a far shorter opperational life. Like everyone here I say go with the Dubro 1/4 scale hinges...... and if you really want to do it right.....Make it a piano hinge!! and aways seal the hinge line!!!!

I don't count flights but My giles has to be close to the century mark as well. OS 160 and CA hinges.

This is really very simple

4 ca hinges per aileron = Disaster
8 ca hinges per aileron = very long life
10 ca hinges per aileron = indestructible / will out live you

I think the worse thing about the CA hinges is that say one of them breaks, then you have to sacrafice all of the hinges on that surfacej ust to fix the one......

Do you know that heat and cold will have shorten the life of CA hinges. They will become hard and then break at the most unusual times, and when a bird does come down it will not be the hinges that are blamed but something else.

My Great Planes Fun One is ten years old this year and is still flying with the original GP CA hinges. Not one single problem in all that time.

At least a hundred flights on mine with the ca hinges that came with it and not a problem. Do make sure you seal the hinge lines with some clear ultracote. Bob
