#77
Here's progress so far. Another rainy weekend so I'm indoors about to start the part I hate most...........butchering the cowl.

Stallwart - likes like your progressing nicely. Me, a little more slowly. Had to cut the canopy out to make it fit, getting the control horns on, hopefully a lot more tomorrow. I'm waiting to hang the engine until after I have hit the bottom and top with paint and Lustercote. Any ideas on a pilot? I got some good ideas today as attending an IMPS meeting. I'm interested in seeing the decals we talked about last night.

The decals and tail code letters are vinyl that I had made on 24"x24" sheets at a sign shop. You squeegee them on with soapy water or Windex. I still have loads left.
For the pilot, I used one of Hangar 9's 1/9 Japanese pilots, but they come unpainted. I have a 1/9 Century Jet pilot already painted that looks kinda small until you set him in the CMP Zero. You wannit?

Stallwart - every time I talk to you, I get motivated to finish my bird. Except for paint and decals, I'm ready to fly. Last night and this morning, I spent too many hours getting everything done. The pilot looks great, thanks. You were right concerning the size, 1/8 would have been too big. How do you post pictures on this forum? I'll show you what the engine looks like installed.

Hey bassfisher,
Did you say you were going to take the engine out of the you-can-do? If so are you not going to fly it anymore?

To post photos, simply click on the underlined blue "click here to upload files" at the bottom left corner of the post reply window. It will give several "browse" tabs that you click to select the location (folder) of your photo. Select the folder, and then within that folder, select the photo. There will be an "OK" button you press, then hide and watch. Finally, click "OK" to post.
Below is a bogus data panel for a Zero that I uploaded to be sure I have led you correctly.

stallwart,
If you don't have the manual, I can look at mine for you about the CG. I put it exactly where the
manual called for and it flies right on the money. Let me know or email me at
[email protected] and I'll give you all the info you need. I'll check and see if I still have the pdf
manual I downloaded and forward it on to you if I have it. I'm not at the right computer right now
but let me know and I'll do what you need tomorrow.
Cheers,
Andy

rc-plane - yeah, I took the engine out of the U-Can-Do (the plane needs to some work, so I'm giving it a break for a couple of months) for repairs. I might just take the Saito .65 out of my Twist and put into the U-Can-Do and put a good .46 2S on the Twist. I'm hoping that the .70 in the Zero will be enough.

Thanks Andy. I've emailed you and feel somewhat more secure in moving CG back from where instinct told me to put it.

Good to see all the action on this kit.
I have a new silver Seagull Zero Fighter kit that I'm looking to sell for $120 plus shipping.
I just have too many airplanes and Momma want me to give her more room in the basement!
Contact me if you're interested!

Retracts would be a fairly major modification by my estimation. I'm sure there are many with the ability to make the structural additions and install retracts on this plane, but it's out of my range of skill. The wing is plenty thick enough, though.

The kit is the Seagull Zero Fighter with fixed gear as described in this thread.

Thanks, but I've already dl'd it. I usally use manuals to see what I've done wrong rather than how to do it right.......lol.

It's been a few months since I hi-jacked this thread, but I'll be ready to maiden my Zero tomorrow. I'm a bit concerned about the CG but took some time checking and re-checking.
Here she is.
I hope this post doesn't turn into a postscript.[X(]

I have an Evolution 52NX in mine and put an 11x8x3-blade on it in hopes of slowing it down at full throttle since it was so fast with a 12x6x2-blade. It's still unbelievably fast.
I suppose 1/3 to 1/2 throttle with the 75AX will keep it manageable.

I figured with people needing to add quite a bit of lead to the nose for cg might as well make it a useable weight. I have a 55 ax doing nothing, just don't like to add dead weight.
How much weight did you need to add to the nose?
