I have a NiMH receiver pack, 5 cell 6v. I think it is 1100mah. is it good not to discharge your pack? should I do it after each outing? Can someone provide me with schematics for a discharge circuit that will allow me to time the discharge so I can determine the condition of my pack. I am electronically inclined and I can design my own schematics if need be, what is a good discharge rate? Just wondering, anyone that can help please do. I wasnt sure what forum to put this in so I put it here, thanks all.

I dont think you need to discharge the pack after every session, if you are flying regularly. But a test of actual battery capacity every few weeks or so is reassuring. If it is 1100 mAH, it should last for 1 hour with a discharge rate of 1100 mA, or 2 hours at 550 mA. Be careful at the end of discharging as Nicds should not be fully discharged, not sure if it applies to NiMH. But all batteries have a life and it is always good to monitor their life cycle.

its a nicad pack. Stock one that came with my 6xas Tx. I have ben using it for about 3 years now and i'm not sure if i should replace it or not, it still holds a charge fine and has a good life. I have discharged it almost completely a few to give it a full fresh charge but i was carefull not to totally discharge it.

you can cycle it fine. you mite want to replace it 3 years is a long time to use it. but a few guys still use the packs that came with their futaba atack 4 am . trans i would not risk a plane for a 30 dollar pack. but i have bought 100 dollar packs and them be bad so you mite be ok just keep a check on it.
