I see some of you are flying this little bird and a $89 I just couldn't resist buying one.
Is the recommended Magnum 30 FS really enough power or should I look at a 56FS or 36 - 40 2 stroke?
Thanks
Jim

I started out with a 25 2-stroke and it was not good power and I have read many posts about engine size for this one and the 56 would be too heavy for it so I went with a 40 4-stroke and it turned out to be the perfect match and balenced without adding any extra to it, I ran mine with a OS 40FS with a 12x4 prop and it was just right for this little plane and Saito makes a 40 now with a little more power than my old OS So I would try that one.
Hope this helped

With the Saito 40 what is the vertical performance? Sounds like you have the optimum setup if the upline is good. My greatest concern with the 56 size was weight and balance so the 40 might be an excellent tradeoff.

vertical was pretty good but not unlimeted however this plane has TONS of drag and that kills the vertical some, The engine I used was old and somewhat tired so I would not be able to give you a great opinion on how the saito will perform but I do know it will be better than the OS 40 (many consider it a dog out of the 40 class 4-strokes) just watch out for dead sticks with this plane, Like manyy bipes if the engine dies it is like slamming on the brakes and does not glide well without power.

I started with a 25FX and it flew it ok. I put a 46FX in it and WOW! Nearly unlimited vertical and plenty of power to pull out of flat spins, etc. I had a blast with it. Built it right out of the box without any mods to the wing incid. You will love it!
ps- get loads of speed on the first couple of take-offs until you are used to it. This will save you a tip-stall crash on the first flight. Dont ask how I know this!

I am just about done with the plane, just need to pick and engine. I have a screamer of a .25FX that was on my Tequila Sunrise, but I have heard many say that a .40LA is a better way to go in terms of balance and power. Any ideas before I start installing blind nuts in the firewall?

I have the 60 size with a Saito 100... I just love the plane... When they lowered the price I had to get the little brother to mine. I know some people had a few problems with the 60. I was one of the first to get one and everything came out great... Just had to reenfoce the landing gear area on my 60 sz... I will go with a 40 fs on the 30. Did you guys do any other mods on yours? Inspected everything and all seems ok. Will be a while before I build this one... Finishing my Gee Bee

Got to do the LG on the little one too and my fire wall pulled right off without breaking any wood???? Put some epoxy and put it back on and you could not even tell it was damaged. (They used hot glue ) Fun little plane but the ground handling in one word "SUCKS" very short plane is tricky on takeoff but once your used to it it is OK. I had a OS 40 4-stroke on mine and only had to move the battery for ballence and ran a 12x4 and it seemed pretty happy with it.
