Just started building my CG 30% Ultimate. First off, I've heard that some people have been having issues with wing incidence and/or warpage. Luckily, mine is not one of these. The kit is beautiful and is of first rate laser-cut construction. Much nicer than the other CG ARFs. The only missing pieces on mine are the axles for the main landing gear. Not a problem as I will give CG a call to get replacements.
The first problem I ran into during construction was the labeling on the interplane struts. When attached per the labels, the top wing doesn't even come close to fitting. I looked at the pictures in the instructions and all of the ads, and realized that mine are labelled upside down. When I flipped them, everything lines up right and they are the proper shape now. Not sure if anyone else has had this issue, but watch out.
My second issue involves the hinging of the elevators. All of my ailerons and the rudder have great 3D throws. the elevator, however, is hinged with the counterbalance super close to the horizontal stab. When you deflect the elevator more than a tiny bit, the counterbalance digs into the stab at the corner. I've sunk my hinges into the elevator a bit deeper and if you cut out some of the wood on one of the pieces, you can get some decent throw. What I'm thinking of doing, however, is to fill in the hinge holes in one piece and re-drill them to allow a gap between the counterbalance and the stab. This should solve the problem once and for all. Anyone else have this problem or come up with another solution?
The last thing I've noticed so far is that there are center-drilled hardwood dowels imbedded into the vertical and horizontal stabs. This looks like it was intended as mounting points for some tail bracing wires. there is no mention of this in the instructions or any of the pictures, however, and the hardware is not included in the kit. I'm wondering if this was built into the kit "just in case". I've contacted Goldberg about this, but they have not replied to me as of yet. I'll probably just fly the plane without the wires and see how she does.
I've got a Fox 4.2 with a Slimline Smoke muffler for the plane. My servos will be JR 8411's all around. Not sure what my final weight will be, but so far the airframe seems to be fairly light--not Dave Patrick light, but still better than most. If anyone has any experiences to add, please chime in.

Glad you got a straight one! Construction is easy and relaxing. I did not put any bracing on the tail and after 30 flights I don't see any need for it.
The one I assembled has a 3W75 and flies great!
Enjoy.

Frankflyboy,
You must have been raised with no manners or couth. The man's plane is well built so the spinner doesn't come up to your expensive tastes, Frankflyboy. Good job, Apilot!!!!!

The hideous spinner has NOTHING to do with expense, for all I know it could be a carbon spinner, which are the most expensive. The airplane is with no doubt a beauty, all I am saying is at least paint it to match the airplane, picture it white or red, just some constructive criticism, lighten up!

It has Futaba 9206's all around and YES frankflyboy1 that is a CARBON Fiber spinner hanging off the front of this airplane! Sorry it is so ugly but we can get only so much R/C stuff here in Oklahoma!

Well, I'm making progress slowly but surely on getting this thing ready to fly. I just need to set up my firewall and engine, and then add a receiver, batteries, and switches, and she'll be ready to go. I found the openings in my wheelpants were not big enough for the wheels, so I had to do some serious dremel tool work on them to get the wheels in with adequate clearance. I modified my elevators by cutting down the edges on the counterbalance and also making some small cutouts in the end of the horizontal stab. This has allowed full 3D deflection on the elevators. My servos and linkages are all set up and I've added a pilot and instrument panel to the cockpit. So far, I'm still very happy with the kit, but I just don't think that this is anywhere near $800 worth of airplane. My Dave Patrick Edge is a much higher quality kit that did not need near this much re-engineering and it was only half the price. This is definitely not double the airplane! Well, hopefully once it flies, it will change my mind! I got a Dave Brown Ultimate spinner to go on my Fox 4.2 and have a collection of Menz and APC props to try out. I'm going to build it initially without a smoke system, but the muffler is a Slimline Pitts smoke muffler, so I can always add one in the future. I'm using JR 8411's on the tail and Hitec 5625's on the wings. It's looking like this will be a nice finished product!

Here are 2 more Better Pic's The Biela prop really makes the plane look sharp!
I did not build the plane but it flys very straight does incredible harriers right side up and upside down. I have flown the plane relatively hard and nothing has come loose or broken. It has total unlimited vertical with the 3W-75 and 22-10 or 22-12 3-blade prop.
The only thing I have had to do is go over and re-shrink to covering but you have to do that on any arf. You will like the plane once it is flying!
