I received one of the "second batch" Phoenix Sukhoi's and there are no engine mount holes in the firewall. There are no markings on the firewall that I can see to guide me. If I'm reading the rather skimpy manual correctly I should center the mount on the big hole for the tank. Is this correct? It seems kind of low to me. I can see the firewall has the right thrust built in and that looks about right.

Hi Doug,
Does this plane come with a cowl? If so......what engine are you using? 2-stroke or 4-stroke.
As far as I know.....with Phoenix models.....2-strokes can either be mounted straight up of 45 degrees. 4-stroke...definately 45 degrees and turn the carb around so that the high speed needle is up. The distance from the fire-wall to the engine bearing or back of the Spinner is 5 inches, for the .40 size planes. Hope this helps....

I just finished my sukhoi. I had the same thought as you when I looked at the hole in the firewall, but I think it is just an illusion. The hole does look low because of the cut out for the muffler, but once my engine was mounted the cowl centered up very nicely with the spinner. I basically just went by the picture in the manual with the engine (2 stroke) mounted 45 degrees inverted with the muffler in the factory cut out.
