Default Looking For An Arf To Match A 1.8 Engine

WELL IM LOOKING FOR A NEW ARF TO USE WITH MY MAGNUM 1.8. I HAD A H9 CAP 232 AND WAS FLYING IT TODAY. AN AILERON TORE OFF AND THE REST IS HISTORY.. JUST A POINTER (ALWAYS SOLDER CONNECTIONS.. ALWAYS.. HEHE I GUESS YOU LEARN FROM MISTAKES) ANYWAY I WANT ANOTHER GOOD ARF TO PUT THIS STRONG ENGINE INTO. I'D LIKE SOMETHING LIKE THE GILES 202 OR SOMETHING THATS A GOOD SPORT FLYER CAPABLE OF SOME AEROBATICS WITHOUT PAYING AN ARM AND A LEG.. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED..

THANKS

Default Looking For An Arf To Match A 1.8 Engine

The Magnum 1.80 and other engine like it (e.g. OS BGX-1) were really designed to compete with the weedwacker gas engines. As such, they are typically heavy and not exactly powerhouses. I know this is not what you want to hear, but they are best suited for laidback big-winged floaters that the typical weedie engines or the Zenoahs would fly nicely.

Any of the 1/4scale aerobats (H9 CAP232, GP Giles, etc.) are really not good matches for this type of engine. Perhaps a Stinger 120?

Check out the 120 size Cap 232 from Kangke. I saw one fly with a 180 saito and it was outstanding, the Magnun 180 should be a good match.

im not sure if you are aware of the specs but the 1.8 by magnum pumps out 5.2 hp.. i had it on a h9 cap232 and it was a rocket until my aileron tore off. then it was a larn dart this engine has plenty of umph for any sport plane in my opinion. im sure its no moki but it is a very strong runner..

Default Lanier Edge

I would go for the Lanier Edge. I have flown mine with a YS 120 and love it. I moved my servos to midship to help with balance since I used a lighter motor. With this motor you should be able to mount servos in the tail and get the correct balance. Should be a great combo. Mine has great performance with the YS and a Bolly 18-6 prop. I am sure you can run a 19-8 or 20-6 prop and have a great flying plane. I did a stall test on mine and it just mushed through the stall. NO NOSE DROP OR WING DROP!!!

Default Good ARF's

H-9 Edge 540 or a G.P. Giles would be a good choice, I've had both, one with a Moki 210 and the other with a Saito 180.
My next one will be a D.P. Ultimate Bipe but unsure of the engine I'll use, maybe a YS 120.

The entire tail on the Giles is "airfoiled".

H9 edge 540 and 1/4 Great Planes Giles might be good choices as Carlos already stated

Default ARF FOR A 1.80 ENGINE

TRY THE DAVE PATRICK ULTIMATE. I USE THE SAITO 180 WITH DON HARRIS SMOKE SYSTEM. FLIGHT IS AWSOME, PREDICTABLE, AND COMFORTABLE. ANOTHER IS THE HANGAR 9 EDGE WITH THE SAITO 180 IS AN EXCELLENT COMBINATION. NEAR UNLIMITED VERTICLE WITH BOTH AIRCRAFT.

Default Loum

I was thinking the 180 would be too much for it but from whats being said about it it sounds great. Two guy's at my field have DP Ultimates with YS 120 engines and I thought THEY were great.
My spare 180 was in a H9 U-Stick for two years untill last month when I hit a high tension wire at the far side of our field. Outstanding, powerful and reliable engine.
My new 180 GK is in my yet to be finished World GS Mustang so the "old reliable" 180 will go into the Ultimate.
Thanks,
Carlos

PS: What size is your smoke tank and battery and what dose the plane weigh complete without fuel and smoke oil?

Carlos,
Using a sullivan 8oz tank for smoke oil. Tygon fuel lines. All up weight is 10-1/2lbs. Always remember to restrict smoke all flo as much as possible (almost off) at the start and very gradually increase until you get the desired results. Too much oil in the muffler will choke the engine to a stall unless under constant full power. SLOW Experimentation will produce the desired results.
The DP Ultimate is the absolute BEST ARF I have ever seen. Only one at my field and all admire the built in super professional craftsmanship. ONLY ONE MINOR FLAW. Supplied cap screws for I struts and wheel pants are soft and cap head wears out extreemly fast. Go to DuBro screws. All else in the Kit is perfect.
Keep the dirty side down

Lou Mango
