Default GP Pitts-Post Wing Fix ??

Haven't seen a SINGLE post from ANYONE regarding the "after" from the GP Pitts wing/cabane thing....so thought I'd share. Past week, I had a chance to REALLY wring her out. FUll throttle snaps, tumbles, lomcevaks, even <wince> Full WOT half-reverse cuban eights, both inside and OUTSIDE.....she's staying together, and not a SINGLE bolt, screw, bracket, clevis, - anything- has come loose, except for MY building error using the wrong epoxy for a couple of cowling retainer blocks.

This Pitts is a REAL sweetheart and looks, sounds, and acts SCALE!! That's why I'm putting in a NEW Taurus T-52, because I want MAXIMUM vertical authority...anyone else been playing with their Pitts post-fix????

Default Pitts-Still Waiting!

I was one of the guys who cut their Pitts up and sent it back to Hobbico. I am getting a replacement but have to wait until the next batch comes in. They said it should be sometime in mid July!
I am very anxious to get this plane as I saw several fly at Joe Nall. They are very sweet! and have no bad tendencies that I could see.

Happy Flying!

Default GP Pitts-Post Wing Fix ??

Flew my Pitts with a Brison 3.2 and a 20x10 prop...WAY too much torque. 1st flight. Removed engine and put my Moki 2.1 in the front of it and wow...what a great airplane. Flame out one last flight of the night....too low and too slow and missed the field and went into the hollow which I could not see the aircraft for about 5 seconds befor she hit. Hit hard, broke the bottom wing in two, clipped the left tip and folded it upwards, shattered the side of the fuse at the wing saddle, BUT, THE AIRCRAFT WAS INTACT WITH ONLY ONE FLYING WIRE BROKEN. I WAS AMAZED! The repairs are going well and I hope to have it ready for the Rally of Giants in Muncie next week.

Default 3.2 -2 -Much??

Michael - sorry for your mishap, but sounds like a testimonial to tough construction by GP....re the 3.2 - guess I'm gonna find out....my ZDZ 40 had plenty of torque, but not PLENTY of "upness", so I have a Taurus T-52 coming...sounds like I will have to watch the throttle curve VERY closely....thanks for the tip!!!

Bob,
What you got in her for motor? My first flight was with a Brison 3.2 and it was far too much motor for this aircraft.( Never thought I'd say that, but the Moki2.1 is a better choice)

Well...I'm using the T-52 Taurus...52cc...haven't flown with this yet, but I will - and yes, I'll be looking REAL hard at ATV'ing down to keep me safe. The ZDZ 40 just didn't have the "upness" I want ( my vertical criteria, some may laugh, is my "competitive" airplanes must be able to do 3 vertical snaps on a line from a horizontal pull...with pauses between the snaps...That's the way I want it)

hey aerobob:
I just op[ened up the top wing on mine & found no cracks but i beefed up the area any way, i am running a g-62 zenoah on mine with a mejzlik 22x12 prop, unlimited vertical, been ringing it out pretty good with no problems, just installed scooby doo pilot, cant wait for club members to see, i also installed tme simple smoke with 24 oz tank on cg, dry weight = 18 lbs, wet = 21 lbs, lot of power with g-62

Hey Mike, met you guys last weekend at the Rally, and I didn't know that the plane had gone through all THAT! It MUST be strong, and that's good news. OTOH, that's one reason I'm going with gas for my Pitts, to minimize glow engine deadsticks.

You did mention that the plane turned hard left on the takeoff run from the torque, but didn't say it was too much torque in the air (only one flight to check things on). My Cermark Pitts with the Saito 1.80 would do the same thing if I firewalled the throttle on the takeoff run. I found that taking off at half throttle significantly reduced the torque, right rudder took care of the remainder, and I was rewarded smooth acceleration and the tail slowly rising then a rollout with rudder adequately handling the steering, and a scale-like liftoff (fun, fun, fun!!!) Think I'm going with the Taurus 3.2 also for the airborn performance, and throttle back to reduce torque for good ground handling.

Hoping to get mine going with the Taurus 3.2 this weekend also. I know Bob Laine loved his with the T-52. Anybody else out there experienced this combo? --planning on a Mejslic 23/10 to start--
M Beckman--was the torque problem in flight or just ground tracking?
