I've ben reading about the G26 lately. Most people run a 16-8 prop, but static thrust appears to be much improved with an 18-6. I guess that only makes sense, if the engine can handle it. Anyway, I've got a feeling this airplane might do very well with that engine and prop combination. I often fly gas powered IMAC planes but would really like to have a no hassle gas sport plane. thoughts?

I have been at it all nite looking into engines for this combo... seems the zenoah g-26 from the posts i have read would be too heavy up front. They were saying you would have to do mods to put servos in the rear, and shift everything aft yet still add tail weight to get it to balance! I personally do not know if this is true but it's funny H-9 has it as one of their recommended gassers, so go figure. I wanted to keep this thing lite so as to have it perform well and even 3-d the best it is capable while still running gas, so weight savings up front was crucial! I have even thrown Mike McConoville an e-mail to see if he had any comments or experience w/ the g-26 USL combo. I actually decided to go with the MVVS myself. More power, Less weight! Should be fun!

Sounds like you were busy! Let me know what Mike says. I'm thinking putting the servos in the tail would be absolutely no big deal, and might even be easier than the stock setup. Just run some extensions back and cut holes in the fuse sides for the servos. A little 16th inch ply where the screw holes are and you're done! In that way you could get a decent CG, even with the Zenoah. I'll bet with an 18-6 on the G26 this thing will hover. Do you know the price on the MVVS? For this ship I'd really like to go with the Zenoah just so I don't have to deal with an ignition batt.
Good work on your research!

Morris has them for just under $400. But no muffler. The zenoah's are under $300 and include the muffler! Funny how the issue of weight will make you spend more! Afterall this is the ultra stick lite we are talking about! I guess i'm just spoiled with my DA's and 3w's being so lite. HUMMMM!!! D/a 50 on here? That would be kind of fun huh??? Ha. Ha. I have not recieved my plane yet so i have not been able to look at how easy the mods for moving the servos aft would be. I did not think it would be so terrible, Others have done it.

Right on, man! I think I'm still going to go with the Zenoah. I want this one to be super simple. Another option would be the Brison 2.4 It weighs 3 lbs and puts out 21 lbs of thrust!!!!!!!!!
By the time you pay for an ignition batt and a muffler, the price goes way up.
The zenoah looks pretty good in that light.

You are right, let me know how it works out! I am sure there are others who would like to know as well as there does not seem to be many who tried this combo.....I have been trying to find out about it for a few days now w/ no luck. just results with people who used it on the ultra stick(with good results) But this is the lite so i wanted to see how it would be on this one.

I have been flying the USL120 for several months with a brison 2.4 on the nose ,the servo's and the receiver battery has to go in the tail Fuel tank is under the wing to make room for the ignition and battery in the nose . I'm running an 18x10 prop but there is very little ground clearence. beef up the fire wall and wing mounts .
now for the answer your looking for yes it flies great unlimited vertical or should I say more like a rocket with flaps it can still land very short and same for takeoffs .and it was just under 12 lbs. I have not had any problems with this set up and this is now my favorite plane I never go flying with out it.

Sounds Cool! That was one of my options... The Brisson 2.4, I'm curious how you mounted the brisson, did you mount it with blind nuts or use standoffs. I'm curious. The Mvvs is rail mounted so i believe you would be able to use the stock engine mount. That and the weight made the Mvvs appealing. Did you use the mechanical advance version? How do you like it??? Sorry so many questions but it's good to hear from someone who used something Gas rather than the Saito or O.s. Thanks!

Cool! I am starting to lean back twords that combo possibly with an electronic ignition system. I have been reading some negative stuff about that mvvs on it's thread! What a pain, trying to figure out what to do!!![:@] I am even thinking about going with the brisson 2.4 now for this bird. i'm glad at least now your mind is at rest!!!! Good Luck!

ha ha! Isn't that just how it is? I think if you can afford it the Brison would be an awesome way to go. But I just finished my GP Christen Eagle (very cool plane) and am kind of at the end of a "spending cycle." Also, I have 2 other Zenoahs and they run perfect and pull way harder than most people think. I have a G62 in my Christen eagle and its terrific. the vertical is punishing!

A buddy of mine is just finishing up a GP christian eagle w a 3w75 up front! I don't think he will have any issues with power there! Anyway to stay on track... Yes, i think i have decided to go with the brison 2.4, I'll probably have to do a few strengthening mods and rear mount the servos and rx pack so i don't have to add any unnessary weight. (or so iv'e read somewhere on RCU) One other guy used this combo and loves it. With the type of flying i have merged into i want to make this my "everyday" plane and save my big one's for the weekend. So basicly i don't want to lack anything in 3D. (or as much as this plane is capable of anyway) The Brison 2.4 is 44 oz. and the zennoah g-26 is like 53oz. but i have to add in the ignition pack also so i hoping it will be good... This other guy said it had unlimited verticle with the 2.4 so off i go...... Hello Brison??????

Hey Wyldman, How about some more info on your Brison 2.4 setup? Some pix would be great if you can! How did you mount it up front ? And what muffler did you use? Must see! Must see!! Did you stick with the stock gear with that 18" prop???

Ordered My Brison 2.4 this afternoon, with the chromed velocity stack, i don't know what i am more excited about, the power i'll get with this combo or how pretty it's all going to look up front! I have a D/A 50 upfront in my Patty Extra and it killed me to hide that pretty thing in a cowl!! At least this plane does not have one! the only thing is i have to wait about 2 weeks or so for it !!! AAAAHHHH!!![:@] oh well! It should be worth the wait, i am still waiting for the plane anyway!
Let's see some of those brison mount pix if anyone has some!

I'm flying my Ultra Stick Lite with a G-26...and it is my favorite plane to fly right now! My receiver battery is in the tail as far back as it will go, and my servos are in the stock location under the wing. It is slightly nose heavy, but still a ball to fly. I would suggest getting a B&B muffler for the motor (or is it a Bennett), that really woke the motor up. I've also installed a smoke system (decided to figure things out on this plane before putting it on my Sukhoi). Here's my current setup:
Stock G-26 w/B & B smoke muffler
APC 17x6 Prop
Hitec 645 servos Rudder and Elevator (under the wing)
Hitec 625 servos on the Ailerons (no split flaps)
Hitec 425 throttle (under the wing)
Slimline Skywriter smoke pump w/16 ounce smoke tank
Stock 22 ounce H9 fuel tank with a gas stopper.
When I first started flying the plane I had a Saito 180 on the nose. The G-26 added about a pound to the overall weight of the plane. Plus, this Stick is a little heavier than normal because I played lawn dart with the thing when I was hovering and the thing ran out of fuel...the fuse broke into 6 or 7 pieces. The added epoxy and ply added some weight to the thing.
The plane doesn't even notice the extra weight of the G-26...in fact, with both tanks full, it will STILL hover!!! It barely pulls out of it, but I also have the extra weight of the smoke system in it. I'm very impressed with the overall performance of this motor. Please note we fly at 4400' altitude, which does choke the power down compared to sea level.
With the Saito 180, it would burn a 24 ounce tank of fuel in about 14 minutes. With the G-26, the 22 ounce tank lasts 45 minutes...I can fly all day for less than a buck!!!
Just my humble impressions.

Now just wait untill aero-dave reads that! How is prop clearance? areyou still using the stock gear? i'm wondering how it's going to be with that 18" lumber upfront or if i am going to be shopping for a taller gear?

Stock gear...and it is close. The thing about this plane...it lands so easily (even without the split flaps), that I rarely touch a prop to the ground. It is a Stick, after all...a design that's been around since the 60's. Must be a reason why they've been around so long...

Thats good to hear, I had a 40 size US with a .60 up front with the Quad flaps last year, I know what you mean they just want to fly! So if it's like it's little brother it shold be fine. Can't wait!

Wow I did'nt know there was anyone but me flying this thing, when I first got my USL120 I seached on RCU for a thread about and there was none.
As for answer to all the questions the brison 2.4 is on 1/2 plywood standoffs so I could get the fuel line though the fire wall as the brison mount takes up the whole fire wall then it's bolted on with blind nuts the fire wall has been reinforced. my brison has the mechicanal advance ,no real reason not to use the atuo advance unit I just like the mechicanal one .here are a few pics that might answer the rest of the questions.

Oh almost forgot It's has an 18x10 prop and the clearence is only 1 inch with tail level so you have to keep the tail down on landing ,but what the heck I love a challange. a smaller three bladed would be a better choice and this is with the stock landing gear so maybe just a taller gear would be cheaper , be either way this plane is a blast to fly.
