For what it's worth the plane is short coupled and is sensitive to elevator input if you are not careful it will stand on it's tail very quickly. Also watch your aileron settings.
I think the plane moves to quick to all inputs.
This is from watching the plane being flown by someone else and both times wound up with minor damage while connecting with the ground.

I bought a poke already built..It has ailerons and a Rossi 45 black on it.
Set you control surfaces where it looks like it will work...Then go back and devide by 1/2....(on low rate)
The rossi tuned pipe was bothersome because of the cheesy way it is attached to the enging (spring)
I placed the pipe where I wanted it and drilled a hole to set a screw....works good.
Good Luck

Hi I built the slow poke sport 40 kit version! and went from my trainers to flying it !! I have the OS .46LA on it and yes the control throws are sensitive but with duel rates or even better expotential it works great !I started at 40%! I just love flying the plane !! The LA isnt a power house but does power the plane very well with a 11x5 APC prop . This plane could be easily classed as a low wing tail drager trainer !! its that easy to fly !! Im getting ready to replace the .46 LA with a TT.46 pro .. The .46 LA is destin to be mounted on my Lazy tiger 51 hahaha it curently running with a oS.25FX!! the wieght of the .25 FX and the .46LA are very nearly the same .. Opps this is for a differant thread LOL

Loved mine. Loved it untill I dusted the corn a little too low., Am now waiting for the replacements parts to rebuild the wing.
I set mine up 'standard' with an MDS 48. And yes, i did have to add some nose weight, A few ounces i beleive, and that's with a true turn spinner. I foudn the plane a dream to fly, but that's my style, slow lazy flying. Don't try any '3D' manoeuvers though it wasen't meant for it!! It will alsmost fly at a standstill, and just slowly putts by.. just over an idle!
Add a Higley Heavy hub to reduce the amount of added wieght.
After a few flights, increase the control throws, and set the dual rates.
yeah, it does make a great '2nd plane'!

I built this as my second glow plane and flew it alot over the summer before moving up. It is powered by an OS 46 FX. What a great plane, here are some insights I gained from flying it this year. This plane is very capable from goin mild to wild...I know, it is not meant for it but on a tight 1 plane budget you do what you can (plus I love experimenting). As you can see from my pics below, I built it to spite my Michigan loving buddy, and am planning on adding bomb drops next summer to drop buckeyes on the Wolverine flag at the field!
1. Use a 12x4 prop...it will let it slow down alot more for landings and it will hover the plane. I know, its not meant for it, but the brakeing ability (and emergency power) is worth the prop switch alone. It will also knife edge the plane indefinitely...very interesting performance for a slowpoke indeed!
2. WATCH OUT FOR THE LOW RATES...imho the suggested low rates are borderline dangerous. From flying my previous planes, the low rates are like gliders and my first flight it hardly had enough response to come out of any move.
3. When you get bored using high rates as your low ones, set up high rates at about 175%-200% and really have some fun...loops within its own length and yes it will power on flat spin. Outside/Inside loops, unlimited vertical rolls.
4. Watch out flying in the wind. Hardest plane to fly in wind I have had the pleasure to fly...VERY TIPSY. Yes it is fun to fly backwards at 20mph in a 30 mph wind but I only did that once and landing was a huge challenge.
5. Be ready on the throttle at landing in any wind!...i know this goes without saying for all models, but the wind can dump out of those big wings quick in a stall attitude...as well as a little gust can send it soaring skyward again.
6. If you have a mix for throttle/elevator you will be happier...at high speeds that ramp shaped fuselage front requires different trim than at low throttle.
7. If you can, build the kit. By placing servos and other equipment as far forward as possible and building in trim, you can really cut the balancing weight...I only needed 6 oz up front with a 46...I have heard real horror stories about arf's needing almost 1 lb.
8. Make up some stickers that say U CAN POKE 3D...and slap em on it. I almost have my wife talked into gettin me an airbrush for Christmas so I can!

I've had two Slow Pokes' and they are very predictable. Landings, in a wind of about 10 mph, i could almost land verticle. extreamly stable aircraft, and fun to fly. I had standard servoes in both of them, but I put a little more power. In the first one, i had an O.S. .61FX, and that was a screaming combo, but I started into the four stroke engines. Got another Slow Poke and put a O.S. .70FS in it, that was a perfect combo. The power when you want it and throttle back a float around all you want. Hope you have fun with yours!

I have read all the threads on this discussion. Everyone mentioned something about the control throws being oversensitive or undersensitive. Which is is?? I have the ARF, powered by an OS 46sx. I was ground checking the plane and decided to run it take off, stall and land before it got airborne.... well - I ran out of runway before it got off the ground. No scratches on the plane, but my hunches were dead on. The manual's suggested elevator control settings seemed WAAAAAY too low. With this powerplant, that plane should be airborne in 20 feet! The manual indicates : Elevator Low - 1/4" , High 7/16" I know this is a very low load wing, but those travels still seem way too low. Did the manual mean 1 1/4 " ???? I was considering going to 7/16" low and 1" high, to me this seems more reasonable but it still might be low. Before I take off, I want to make sure.. There is no worse feeling than having no elevator control. I am positive the plane is setup correctly.
I have been flying trainers successfully for some time, and am very comfortable with all aspects of flight and even recovering from mistakes or incidents (my aileron servo horn broke in flight and I was still able to land with a fluttering aileron) I also have been flying my U Can Do 3D (not as a 3D plane yet tho!)
I am interested in knowing what are the realistic surface throws for this airplane....
Thanks!

havent flown this gem yet.,
still looking to talk to the older members of my club as what to do about the mis-matched wings!!!
my kit come with wings that rocked in the center on both matches!!! Center wing section was right on.
Both right and left wing have a high spot at the main spar. What do I do to connect the wings to the main (center) section???
I dont want to mess with the covering, I could join them if i removed the covering and sanded the joints, but I am afraid of removeing the monocote. Is this a flw or do I need to work this kit a bit???

Hello All,
I just finished building/puttig together my arf SLOW POKE .40 I use a saito .45 with a 12x5 prop. I moved the engine all the way out on the mount. I made a homemade cowl for it out of balsa, run the muffler thru the fuse and out the bottom, installed retracts(yes I know, too much time on my hands), made a servo tray and moved the sevos forward as much as posible. Had to add 2oz of lead to balance on the back side of the recomended range. Looking to flying it when the weather clears up.
