Thanks for the response on the muffler question guys. Just ordered my Superstearm from Chief Aircraft today. Wife is getting it for me for Christmas, although she doesn't know it yet. HA!
Contacted MGA via Email. He says it is a FPE muffler, but that it is a little loud. Asked if he would sell it to me as noise is less critical for me.
Hope to have mine up and flying by spring time. I will be useing this thread extensively for tips and hints while assembleing.
Will be powered by FPE 2.4, Probably Hitec airborn gear.

Hey guys - I know its in these posts somewhere but can't find it. Some of you went with the G26 and the tru-turn 2 3/4" AT6 spinner. First question is: will that spinner accomodate an APC 18X6W prop and second, does it require a special adapter nut for the G26? Thanks in advance. It's almost ready to fly!

[sm=surprised.gif]mrRB and or ghost-rcu, I have the os 160 and are looking into the stearman to purchase for this engine, questions? understand the need to build a mount 3" by 4" by 7/8 and the tank location is in the stock location? or lower and if so how much?also have the 4" smooth inflatables are this the right ones or the treaded ones, the ail issue I believe I understand how to correct 7/8 instead of the 1 3/16 want to thank all for any input really is nice. builder jim

Anyone tried a Saito 220 in this plane? If so, which mount are you using?

My Stearman is here. MGA has sold me his muffler, and it is on the way. I went to LHS today and began assembling necassary gear to compleat this bird. ( I like to have as many ducks in a row as possible before beginning). I bought the sullivan skywriter smoke pump to add a little pizzaz. Got hitec 425BB servos. 6v pack NiMH for servos and 4.8v for reciever. LHS did not have a isolater in stock so I will order one. ( He offered to order, but I can order myself cheaper). LHS's need to relize that if they dont have it, we can get it via internet, just like them. l try to support them with buying airborne gear and the like from them, but if they don't stock it, I'm sure not going to order through them. Anyway, by the time I was through buying stuff total came to more than the plane!
Who said this was a cheep hobbie? Anybody remember that guy? He must of been talking to his wife.

Why do you need an isolator?

Ron,
I like the redundency and RF interference protection a isolator/power buss provides. My 6v pack will be plugged into isolator and powering servos only. 4.8v pack powers reciever only. The isolation circuitry provides protection from servo noise, loads etc. especially useing metal gear servos. I have even mounted throttle servo directly on firewall with gas engine and electronic ingnition module, with absolutely no radio interference resulting. Oh, and a metal pushrod too.
For those interested, after talking to MGA via e-mail, I have chosen not to use the 425 servos. Instead have purchased hitec 645MG and 535 Karbonite gear servos. 645's on rudder and ailerons and 535 on elevator's. one on each elevator half, which may mean the additon of a matchbox. not sure yet.

PETERK.... I dont remember the stats on a Quadra 25, but if it isnt too much heavier than Zenoah26, it should be fine. the plane will handle the weight . The Stearman, and a mid 20`s gasser are a perfect match. Ther are several ways to save weight elsewhere if needed. I have thrown away most of my NICD packs and replaced with NIMH to save space and weight thus allowing more needed weight in other areas. like engine, smoke. etc.

I'm looking for some on who has installed a ZDZ40 into thsi Stearman. Any ideas? (I'm certain a pitts muffler can not be used due to firewall design). Any feedback appreciated... or even a link if any one has one (searched around and found nothing).

Thanks!

Tom

Do any of you have pictures of a completed Stearman nose with the Tru-Turn 2-3/4" spinner mounted? If so, can you please post a couple pictures for me. Thanks.

Here's the recommended Tru-Turn adaptor. It's the one they recommend on the Tru-Turn website for the 2-3/4", AT-6, 120 slot spinner. HTH
