Default Giles 202, Giles 300

Could someone tell me the difference between a Giles 202 and a Giles 300 airplane?
What does the number actually indicate, a different model, with the 300 being a more recent design maybe??

To my knowledge the only difference is the HP in the real airplanes the 202 having 202 HP and 300 having 300 HP. Thats the only difference there is as far as I know. As for the models just the decals indicate what you are flying. Take em off and I doubt anyone could tell the difference. As far as I know.

The original Giles, the G200 was a very small light aerobatic plane with a 200 HP engine designed to compete with the larger Extras and other aerobats using 300 HP engines. The G202 is a 2-place version of the G200. Now pilots of full size aerobatic designs are no different than we are as pilots of scale-aerobatic RC planes i.e. there is no such thing as enough horsepower. So we have the 300 HP version of the G202 called the G300. Somebody correct me if I am wrong. [8D][8D]..........RJ

Is the wing still the same?
Straight trailing and tapered leading edges?

Yep. Except for different manufactures color schemes they all look the same.

I have no idea how scale my Ohio R/C is but the plans for the fuse were marked as G202/G300 but the plans for the wings were marked G300 and are 1" total longer and 50 sq. ins. more than the G202. All I know is that it is one fine flyer.

I agree I love my Giles 300 from YA but I am a 3D guy and I am concerned that it wont perform to my needs. We'll see, at best I can practice on it. And get ready for my Edge 540.

Joeb,

I'm a little confused- have you flown your YA Giles300 yet? Why do you think it wont do 3D, and why do you think the Edge540 will do 3D better? I'm curious because I am thinking about getting the YA Giles.

Just by going on what I hear. I have not concluded this from my own info. It seems as though the Giles is not the best 3D performer mostly for stability issues. The shape of the wing having the taper in the front seems to be an issue. I dont agree, but cannot say because I dont have the time in on the bird yet. I have read that as far as 3d Is concerned that the edge is a better performer just by going on everyones threads in here it has the straight leading edge mid to upper wing on the fuse as opposed to the lower wing on the Giles. My only advise if you are going with the Giles is to give it POWER !! I would recomend nothing less than a saito 100 IMO I would put in a YS 91 or even consider a YS 110. I have an OS 91 in mine now I am not totally happy with it but I can practice. I can go verticle pretty steady but not rocket out of a hover. I like that feeling of having more power than I need especially in 3D. My 40 size morris knife has a ys 63 in it and its a rocket. fantastic performer. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
