Any simulator is better than none!......and the Alpha 60 is one great flying trainer - go for it.

For a beginner engine I do recommend the blue ones. OS 46LA. Cheap, easy to start, easy to tune, trouble free. I have one in an Avistar and another in my Tower voyager. A most excellent engine for a beginner. I know other engines may have more power and what not. All I can say is this engine (both of them) have been absolutely trouble free for me. Just don't get a heavy trainer like the Thunder Tiger Trainer 40. Go with something lighter like an avistar or that alpha trainer. I had a TT 40 and it flew like a brick.

Here is a clicky: [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBY20&P=0]OS 46LA at Tower Hobby[/link]

BTW HAPPY B-DAY!!!

Here is the link for Balsa USA http://www.balsausa.com I built a Stick 40 with strip ailerons for my trainer and used an OS LA 46 on it. It flew great and is one tough trainer. I even flew it with ski's off the snow last winter.

Peter, I've got nothing but praise for the Avistar and the 46LA engine. As a five pounder with this light little powerhouse up front the plane performs very well and handles beautifully. Its a very durable craft. I can attest to that as I have learned on one and years later still fly it for some care free fun. On training night there is a sigh of relief when a student shows up with an Avistar as compared to some of the other flat bottom wing types. With the semi symetrical wing, you will have years of enjoyment even after you solo. (unless you are like your dad and just has to have them all) Good luck, Joe

Avistar. One of the all time RC classics. Nuff said.
