Just do a search for Vector Flight. You'll find a ton of hits. I own their 58" Extra, and the Edge 540. Believe me, you'll NEVER find a better compnay to do business with. Their customer support is the best ever, and their planes are very well constructed, and fly excellent.

Id love one. BUT they cant ship it to Australia for a reasonable shipping rate due to the large box size. I did some looking into the shipping costs and it would be almost as much as the model itself. YET Ive seen other larger wingspan models in smaller length boxes and therefore able to be shipped to Australia.
Can anyone shed any light on why the box is so long ? Aparently over 45 inches long. I know the fuse is 57 inches but surely with the cowl and rudder not in place it could be packed smaller. Im even thinking of asking them to cut the fuse somewhere to get it in a smaller box, I really want one of these models so Id happily rebuild the fuse.

Shoot them an e-mail. You won't believe how nice they are. I'm sure they will come up with something that can be sent to you at a reasonable rate. These people really care about their customers. Absolutely unbelievable these days.

I sent them an email, thats how I know they wont ship to Australia due to the high shipping costs.
Maybe they think my other 2 emails were a joke asking about a mutiple aircraft shipping rate and asking if it were possible in some way to get the Edge540 into a smaller box.
Maybe Ill just go look for an Edge540 ARF thats already in Australia.

Heres the recent reply I got from Vectorflight.
"We have looked up several carriers that we normally do not deal with, including DHL and UPS. Because the package is considered oversize by all carriers, the freight charges are very high, over US$300 for the least expensive. The defining length size is 42 inches, which is only about 3 inches more than our box size. But the length plus girth measurements are also a problem. Even if we go with 2 boxes, the overall shipping charges will be prohibitive."
Bugger.

I have been flying my Edge 66" for a couple of months now. Probably 50 flights. It is the best flying plane I've got right out of the box. Mine has a Webra 75 and has plenty of power with vertical to out of sight. Wheel pants are not even worth fooling with. I have some I had from a wrecked Cap 21 that I painted up and look good. I used the original belly pan for a form and built a fiberglass one. Simple and alot more durable. Cowl seems to be fine. Wings have become alittle loose where they fit to fusalage and rattle alittle. Doesn't seem to be a big deal. Altogether worth the $$ and would buy another.

I can't find on thier website how many servos these aerobatic planes require...5-6-7? Anyone got any insight on radio setups for the 66" 540 or 66" 300S? Standard servos OK? Futaba 3004 perhaps, or 3001? High torque needed anywhere special, rudder, elevator, ailerons?
I am looking into these as a next plane from my GP Shoestring which I try to fly like a aerobatic plane rather than a scale speedster.

I've heard the standard servos work fine in this plane. That being said, I'm starting to buy coreless digitals and I'm planning to use Futaba 9550s mid sized in the wing, HiTec 5625s on the tail and a Futaba 9650 mini on the throttle. I know it's way overkill, but I don't want to buy any more standard servos.
With the YS 1.10 I have for it, it should have some giddy-up. I've heard people putting the OS 91FX 2-stroke in this and have it be OK weight-wise, so the YS should work OK too.

SkyDude, I am glad you mentioned both of those engines as they the 2 choices I have narrowed it down to for power in this model. I like the OS61FX I have now, and if the 91FX is as reliable an engine I can't see how it would be a bad choice. EXCEPT, fuel consumption is rediculous on these large 2 strokes. The YS110 is a little pricier than I like, but I have read great reviews on it for power and reliability. Oh the choices we must make in this hobby!

I read here on RCU of someone put who a YS 110 on either an Edge or an Extra 66". I think it was in the "Any good?" thread. They didn't give specifics on balancing other than to say they liked the extra power and "it flew great". I imagine the battery will need to go back in the tail section somewhere for proper CG. I hope no any extra balance weight will be needed (it wasn't mentioned). This is just what I've read so far, I haven't put mine together yet.
Of course, the firewall should be either pinned or reinforced with tri-stock when using bigger motors than the suggested size.

I had the 66 Extra until this past weekend and it was a great flyer. The RX battery went dead and the plane went in from about 80 feet up. Oh well it gives me an excuse to get another one. I am debating between another extra or the edge. What do you guys think. I had a TT 91 4 stroke on mine and it flew it great. I don't try to 3D and just do IMAC style aerobatics and fun fly. I used standard futaba 148S servo's in my plane and they were fine. I had to place the battery about half way back to the tail to get the CG right. I really liked the extra but am curious about the edge. How do they fly compaired to each other? I will probably use a 91 4 stroke engine and standard servo's on the new plane also.

I have both the Edge and the Extra in the 66 size. Both are powered by 91 FX running APC 14 by 6 props, unlimited vertical on both, balanced without any extra weight. Both are incredibly precise flyers and excellent for IMAC. The Edge has very crisp rolls, does great 8 pointers, and has a very powerful elevator even with standard servos. The Extra is all around a very good aerobatic airplane and lands more conventionally. The Edge has to be brought in slower and pointed down a bit, but it has ridiculously low stall speed. It just hangs in there without falling out of the sky, just the right tendency for hovering. Other than that basically a question of personal choice. I couldnt decide so I got both and love them! just my 2c!

Yeah Cooter, those are good pics. You can see how your battery fits just right back there. Nice!
And you didn't have to hack up the cowl too much, even with a 120 sized motor. That cowl is bigger than I thought so my YS 110 should fit in it OK too.

How does the Vector Flight Edge 540 compare with Aeroworks? I'm not sure whether we can get the Vector Flight models over here, although Aeroworks are available.
I'm definately considering an Edge when I have a bit more experience.
