Finally i flew the chipmunk. it flew great, however when i would do a vertical climb it would pull left it needed full right rudder to track it straight. Do you guys think that i need more right thrust? I did notice that the vert. stab has a slight twist (warp) in it pulling the top of the tail to the left. I had to trim in some right rudder to compensate. Could this be the problem? If so any correction ideas. The gear is a little weak bouncing around alot on the grass landings were smooth.

My Feedback: (35)
Did you add any weight to the tail of yours? I used a TT .60 and had to add some weight to the back end to balance based on the manual. I fley it yesterday and there is not much left. It was tail heavy and it was a quick trip to the ground. The wing is all that survived.
Thanks

I have a GiantScalePlane Super Chipmunk 52 that does exactly what your's does. Checked the lateral balance and it was okay. I have stripped the engine (Saito 56) off it and will add some more right thrust to see if it will help.

I'm thinking that an adverse rudder angle and lateral balance problem may be the cause.
I took all of the right thrust out of mine when I put in a TT 91 FS and it flies just great. Hmmm...
Haven't flown it in a while but I'll definately be watching for right side fall-off when going vertical.
It would seem that it is true that a nose heavy plane flies stoically and will live to see another day while a tail heavy plane generally flies once!
The retracts can be smoothed out a bit for landing and take-offs. See the Tips & Techniques forum for ideas. It may take some searching...
Good luck,
Jeff
