Default G26 in H9 Taylorcraft

I've got a Taylorcraft that I've decided I need to finish. I was originally going to put my YS140 in it, but I'm thinking I'd like to try gas. My friend has a G23 in his and it flys nice, but doesn't have a lot of extra power.

For those with the G26 in their T-Craft - is there enough extra power to get you outta trouble? Does it fly great with that combo. I'm not really interested in an electronic ignition gas engine at this time.

Thanks,

Jeff

My uncle has one with a Saito 180 in it, but I don't know how well it flies. I think the G26 would be a perfect match for that airplane. G26 is cheaper than a YS 140 and cheaper to run. I wish I could find one mainly because it looks so nice but also because Hangar 9 has some good ARF's but they make too many that are "limited."

My friend has one with a G26 in it and it flys great. plenty of power you won't need more than that. good luck.

I have this combo and the TC flys scale at full throttle (slow ). It will do slow loops and rolls but do not expect the G26 to get you out of trouble you have to fly this plane. When you need to gain altitude you have to gradually go up or you will stall it. I’ve crashed my TC twice due tip stalling and the lack of power from the G26. My G26 spins a 18x6 prop at 7000 which seems to be the norm for this engine. So if you use your engine to power you out of trouble the G26 is not what you want.

If I could do it all over I would use a Brison 2.4.

I also had a Saito 180 on it and had to add 19 ounces to the nose to ballanve her.

How did it fly with the 180?

I have one with a 3W-24 in it, and it pulls it nicely.

The Saito pulled the TC in the same manor as the G26 did, slow and scale. With the Saito you can go through 16 ounces of fuel in 6-7 minutes with G26 I can fly for 20-25 minutes of the same 16 ounce tank.

Remember this plane will tip the scale at 16.5 pounds and the 2 engines will have around 12-14 pounds of thrust depending on prop size.

Don’t mistake my feelings towards the engine in a negative way. I like to fly the TC like it was intended to fly, Sunday slow flyer for some R&R…
