Default GP Patty Wagstaff and Robart hinges

Ok guys, after a pretty long search I haven't been able to find the answer to my question. (I don't feel like reading each and every of 7000 posts to find this!)

I want to put Robart hinge points instead of CA hinges and am concerned about how much wood the hinges are actually securing themselves to. I drilled the hinges and am pretty comfortable with the rudder and ailerons, but the elevator seems to have a pretty thin TE of the stab and LE of the elevator. Have you been doing anything to beef up the wood, or are using poly glue expecting it to hold tight enough. I really don't want to use CA hinges but I will if the Robarts don't seem to be strong enough. I measured the wood using a hooked piece of wire through the hole and it looks to be thick enough for the first barb to just hit the edge of the wood. All of the rest of the barbs are past the wood. If I were building the plane from a kit, there would be plenty of wood, but since it is an ARF, I am kind of stuck. (one more reason I don't like ARF's!) Please let me know what you guys have been doing on this particular plane. I know a lot of guys have used Robarts on this plane and I am just having some reservations.

Thanks

There isn't much wood, but they have been holding up very well. Mine have been installed since this plane first came out and no problems.

You will find, if you use a polyurethane glue (Gorilla, Elmers, etc. the glue will expand and form a nice ring around the part of the hinge point that is sticking through the wood.

Try a sample piece you will see what I mean.

Thanks! I will do a sample and see what happens. Sorry about the double post in Giants also.

I have used the same hinges on mine, no problem but, I recommend you seal the hinge surfaces. Not only to make them more efficient but to help with piece of mind. I just feel better when I have the Monokote helping to hold it all

After 190+ flights, the rudder on my GP PW Extra came off.
I re-installed it with robart hinges and it worked great.
There is more than enough wood.
Just make sure it is seated.
