Mrt1750,
What kind of "extensive" work are we talking about on the cowl? Also, what kind of muffler did you use on the Saito 180? Stock?

Thanks,
Jeff

I have a H9 Edge with a BME 50 on the nose. I love this plane. It flies light. 15lbs. loaded. I have construction pictures and videos on my site. Check them out.

I got the instument panel from a local guy at one of the swap meets this past winter. I don't know the guy's name or where he got it from. Sorry.

I've been getting photo-quality panels from horizonsnz.com. They've got quite a selection. Excellent quality, and very accurate.

I may have stumbled across the place where finnz's panel came from. Goebel Custom Instrument Panels at http://www.tntlandinggear.com/store/...ent_panels.htm

Default APC 18x6w ?

Hi Mike (mrt1750),
What does the "w" stand for in an APC 18x6W propeller? This sounds like a good propeller for me to start with.

Thanks,
Jeff

Edge
Shortman is correct ,the "W" stands for wide. Make sure when you buy a spinner you get the tru-turn cut out for this prop.
To answer your question about cowl both value covers will stick out the side of cowl you will also need a hole that lines up for the angle of the glow plug driver, at first I used a remote had to much trouble with it, I like useing an extended glow driver. In short the hardest part is the two holes for value covers there is'nt a lot of area between the covers, you could make one gaint hole a lot less work but you won't like it.
thanks
Mike

This question is for mrc100, since he has a Moki 1.80 in his, and that's what I'm putting in mine. I'm also planning(have everything already to do it) dual elevator servos. How did your balance come out? I'm thinking the 2 servos will compensate the weight of the heavier engine, does this stand to reason?
If I missed that somewhere my apologies, I'm going over this thread again anyways,,,geez...alot of threads on this plane lately. Can't wait to get to mine. Thanks for the response

PS...also...H9 makes a pretty cool insrument panel I got for mine. It's very decent, although it should be at about $29. hehe

DGrant,

My Edge balanced according to the plans without lead with two futaba 9303 servos in the tail for the elevator. I believe this was approx. 4.75 or 5" from the leading edge.

I had the same thinking as you with the tad heavier Moki.

tailslide,

No problem mounting the Moki just followed the manual and used the included mount.

Actually I really liked the mounting design because it was so easy with the adjustable firewall holes and motor mount.

Thanks Mike (mrt1750) (and shortman),
I'll probably go with the 2 holes for the valve covers too, to keep it clean!

On the spinner, Tru-turn makes one with a cut-out for the 18x6w APC prop. ? Didn't know that. I'll see if I can find one when I shop for props.

Thanks again for all you input!
Jeff

PS - Hangar9, hurry up with my plane!!! I can hardly wait!!!!

Default Landing gear

does anyone here recommend replacing the stock alum gear with a carbon fiber gear from Moose, or graphtech? I am going to put a OS 1.6 on mine, and trying to shave weight, also maybe replace the wheels for lighter ones. Not sure how it will balance, still in the building process, but already have Hitec 225 mini metal gear servos x2 mounted in the tail. Plan on using a Slimline pitts muffler since I head bad things on the bisson and the OS 1.6, any info on the gear and cg would be great

Default tires

I am also planning on a moose carbon fiber landing gear to increase strengh and reduce some weight, also, anyone make a good replacement for the factory tires that are considerably lighter?

I replaced my gear with graphtech's (www.graphtechrc.com) and it held up well until the trees got into the way!

I was looking at those as well but Moose are better.

The H9 edge STOCK gear weighs 7 ounces

Moose Carbon Fiber gear weighs 3.5 ounces

Graph Tech gear weighs 5.5 ounces

Moose cost 30$ and has a good warrenty

Graph Tech cost 50$

I've got one and I love it. I've got a Saito 180 with Master Airscrew Scimitar 16X8 prop. Turns 9300 on 15% Wildcat fuel. This is by far the easiest plane to 3D. Its the only plane that I can control WELL in a TR. Does great elevators, waterfalls, blenders, full 3D snaps into a TR and anything else you can think of. Harriers are a little unstable, but I've only got about 13-14 flights on it. I had to add no balast at all. I put the battery pack on top of the tank. I'm running a 1650 nimh pack. The plane weighs 11.5 lbs.

It really is a great flyer. Lands quite slow also.
