I am concidering a World Models Cub. I read good things about WM arfs on here, but I still wonder why is thier Cub ARF is so much less expensive than the Hangar 9 or Thunder Tiger.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

It is just a bit smaller in size than the others. The H9, TT, GP and Global(?) are all 80"~82" wingspan. The WM is 71" or 72", isn't it?

Other than that, it's all marketing. WM quality is just as good, and in some regards better than the other big names.

Default Just watch out for their customer service

My Zen 90 canopy split in flight, and WM blamed it on me since I used the hardware they provided to attach the thing.

W.M. builds some of the best ARFs in their price range, but as with all manufacturer's some flaws exist. they are great planes and excellent flyers. The Cub is covered in Ultracote (oracover) and not fabric which detracts from the 'scale' look. If that doesn't bother you then it's a good choice. You might look at the GP 1/5 scale cub which is a neat ship before you buy.

If you click below, I have linked to our club's recent CUB DAY affair. The one in front didn't make it out of a spin just before the pic was taken and the big one is a 1/3 scale darling with a 4 Cyl OS:

Hi Kirby,

I've had two WM Cubs. As quint mentioned, the shiny Ultracoat looks "unscale," but the plane is well-built and nicely covered.

My first Cub was one of the most enjoyable planes I've owned. It begged to be flown inverted, low and slow. One evening, I tried pulling out of low, slow inverted flight into an outside loop and stalled it -- right in the sun, no less. Ooops!

Cub #2 doesn't fly nearly as well for some reason. I haven't spent any time figuring out why, but I'm sure I'll get it figured out.

At $129, I think the WM Cub is a great deal.
