KMP Cessna Skymaster

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
I finally got the prop adapters I was waiting for so I locked down engine number 1. These Power 60's are rated for about 1,400 watts each. Based on the numbers I see glow Skymasters coming in at I figure mine should be about 16 pounds. That would give me about 175 watts per pound, or unlimited vertical!

Hye Scott,
you are on the right way.
But don`t forget to rotate the front gear so that the scissors are in the front

Bosmodelair..
Must have been an optical illusion.. noseleg looks ok to me . The Lasers are fitted although the rear engine sticks out way too far (I have a solution for this though!!).
The booms are all fitted now, perfect alignment first time!
More soon..

Got my rear motor mounted. I was going to use the same motor mount I have on the nose, but the distance is too short. I found these neat plastic studs at the local hardware store and they worked great. I Dremeled out the area behind the spinner on the rear cowl to emulate what the real 337 has. Since mine is electric this will also serve as the hot air exhaust and I won't need any other holes. I think it looks pretty good.

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
I weighed mine. 16.3 pounds with two 6S 3,300 mAh packs. Missing is the nose strut servo, ESC's and the interior, so I figure RTF weight will be under 17 pounds. This excites me as other guys in this thread have been flying it at over 20 pounds.
With 3,000 watts of power that means 176 watts per pound or, as Horizon Hobby states, "Unlimited performance aerobatic and 3D models" lol.

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
great looking rear end :-) but from the looks of it, you're still using a pusher prop. wouldn't it be easier to source a tractor?

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
Well I ordered the pusher prop because I originally was going to go gas on my Skymaster. Now it's electric so I can have them spin either way.

So do I !
Its the Top Flite cockpit for their Cessna 182. The instrument cluster fits quite well and follows the lines of the 337. The floor I can use and part of the side panels, the rest I'll make from balsa and thin plastic sheeting.

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
This summer I only fueled the front tank half full so I could test just what you ask....and yes it will maintain level flight ok and even climb a little. This is with a OS 91 pumper.
Picture is with BOTH 91's working for the takeoff.
She's a nice airplane if you can get her built. LOL

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
A couple of issues with one engine. Firstly, yes it will run with one engine. At least mine runs, and flies with either engine out. I have 2 OS FX 91s and there is more than enough power with either engine alone.
Now for the problem of mounting only one engine. This model is tail heavy, hell all KMP models are tail heavy. Without the front engine I can only guess how much weight you would have to put in the front to get it to balance. But, this is a twin engine plane, why would you want to leave one engine out of it?

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
im trying to make it a long range FPV / UAV and i would put the pan / tilt camera and all the electronics in the front. I think i would use a bigger engine then the OS FX .91 just to play it safe but im not sure how much room there is to mount the engine.
How big do you think can go? I wanna be able to hold alot of fuel but inturn the bigger engine will use more fuel. i need to fine a good combo
