Default Stinger ARF

I see the Stinger series advertised all the time, but don't see them mentioned here. Any opinions about them? I am interested in the 60 size. How do they handle? Fast? Slow?
I had built a stinger 10 long ago and thought it was a quirky flier and am just wondering what the larger ones are like.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I have the Stinger 60 size plane. It's on it's third year and it's a great flyer. Way overpowered with a 91 two stroke. With the thickness of the wing, in my oppinion, bad habits are hard to find with this one. You will enjoy this plane.

I have one I built 4 years ago. Good flier and predictable.
I do not like the crappy plastic and foam construction and feel it takes away from an otherwise nice plane. It is not a 3-D plane if thats what you want, I have a very nice Magnum 91 FS on mine that does the job well. This is a somewhat heavy plane....

I have been flying my Stinger 60 for about six months, on an almost daily basis. I've got a Evolution 1.0 on it and it is a real hoot to fly! In my opinion, you can't go wrong with it for a second or third plane.

I had a stinger 60 ARF with a TT .91 in her. It's a nice flyer, no bad habits. Lands a little fast. but mine was balanced on the forward end. The tail wires are a must and they tend to be nose heavy. I made a shelf and put the battery in the headrest. Not overly fast, comperable to a stick maybe in speed and handling. It's a nice plane, good luck.

Nice all around plane. Heavy but that males it a little better in the wind.

The plastic needs to be backed by 3/4oz fiberglass and PVC pipe cement.

It a older design that has been around for years.

Makes a good casual plane.

Enjoy,

Jim

I wanted to mention that the stinger 60 kit and the 60 ARF are two different animals. The ARF is a built up, all wood model with fiberglass cowl and wheel pants. Not to be confused with the ABC plastic parts and foam wing of the kit.

It's one of the few exceptions in models where the arf is actually better than the kit. I found it to be realivly light for a 60 sized plane, mine came in at just over 7 lbs. The only problem I found with mine (other than the tree I knife edged through!) was the star stickers for the wings peeled off as soon as a little fuel residue came into contact. Skip the stickers, other than that a keeper.

I had the .60 arf a couple years back. Now all I have is the custom cockpit that I did for it and some tail feathers up in the rafters. Joe

I got my Stinger back finally. I sold it a few years ago, it went thru 3 owners and the last owner lost control and pancaked it with lots of damage. It was given back to m ewith lots or work....I got her flying again. For power, tried out the Magnum 91 and like it very much. With a low pitch prop....I find it 3D capable....not your hard core 3D, but it will hover and other fun tricks. I like it and I am so happy to have back home!!!!

Does anyone recall what the thrust angles should be for the engine on the ARF? I have one, but I need to cut out the firewall and replace it for a different engine and configuration.

the CG should be at the trailing edge of the wing sheeting

Thrust offset is usually 2 degrees down and right
