Hi everyone. My question is will a ST G90 be too much for a Goldberg Tiger 60 ARF ? I don't mind beefing up the front end a bit if necessary. Can't beat the price for this size engine !
Thanks
Thanks

Let think about this..... Is there ever REALLY to much power? LoL But seriously you may have to beef up the wing center section with that engine. I have a saito 91 in mine and It's plenty of power.. Will hover and pull out! I'd say go for it just be careful on those downlines.. Also what's the weight of the G-90. Mine came in about a pound tailheavy with the saito so be prepared to shift some weight around. Other than that the tiger is a great plane.

Too much power ? Never heard of that before.
Guess glassing the wing center section is gonna be a given then. The G90 weighs 27 oz with muffler according to Super Tigre's web site. Heck, if the thing comes in that tail heavy, might as well stick in a Webra 120[X(][>:]

Thanks for the advice.

Okay ... I got a WM Super Chipmunk ... its rated for 60 2C and 90 4C ... I went with a ST G90 ... its cheaper than a 90 4C and over this weekend I learnt why there is a need to over power a plane. The extra power is not just about speed but my Chippie can pull nearly unlimited verticals and knife edges are a breeze. The extra power is a must! I can throw a 15x4 prop and with that I will have all the torque I need.
The G90 is an interesting engine ... not a real screamer, only getting 10,500 RPM on a MA Scimitar 13x6 ... most reliable and she will flip start all the time. Also ... its cheap.

Yup, torque is what I'm looking for. The Tiger isn't intended to be a "bullet". Just want good vertical and a quick take-off. I fly from a short grass field and rapid acceleration is nice to have. The cheap part doesn't hurt either.

dave ... I was told in RCU by a guy with the same set up as me to go for the 15x4 prop, he is doing rolling circles with the Chipmunk! My engine is still new, about 1 gallon only, hope to see more revs soon. Its not 'good vertical' its brilliant. I mean I can climb straight up for quite a while and then do a hammer head, it looks so kewl. I lift off with about 40% throttle! I like long scale like roll outs ... about 50' - 70' and then with a 15 degree climb

Dave ... the Chipmunk flies really good. I have flown many many planes and this is one of the best I had ... flies like a real plane. Easy and steady take offs and landings. Maneuvers are nice ... I don't even bother to use flaps.
I am sure she is cheaper than the Tiger.

e-dave, I have a g90 in my tiger 60(kit). Started breaking the motor in today. TONS of power, tons. The wieght is at 7.05lbs, dry wieght. I have a 16oz tank in it. Plan on maiden flight next weekend, I'm thinking 1/2 - 2/3 throttle will pull it vertical forever.

Let me know how it flies. Did you have any balance issues with the set up ? I will be picking up my Tiger ( ARF ) at the LHS Wednesday, I hope.

G 90's are an awesome compact powerhouse.
I had one in my CMPRO swallow, pumped and piped, it would swing a 14 x 8 at about 8700 and was oh so quiet and verticals were stupidly easy.
The only thing that I can suggest is throwing out the supertigre carb as their midrange is very wobbly and purchasing an OS 7m carb.

Thanks for the pics. Nice installation. I noticed you went for the tail dragger option. I will be doing the same, never flown a tri-gear.
Rendegade, is the OS carb a direct drop-in ?

Renegade ... yeah the mid range sucks a bit, I just got mine tuned this morning ... I leaned the mid range a little and then finally og the high end needle at the right setting, need to be patient. The G90 does not sound so sickly now and transition is good. I am running 15% nitro and I still hear some pinging, have to go down to 5% I guess.
I wanna ask you about the Swallow, I got one and might be keen to sell her, does she fly that well? What is your opinion of that plane? You can PM me a reply. Thanks!!!

Oh and guys, there's a d in my name, comes from being a 3d renderer.
The swallow was a great plane, and still is, I clocked up some serious hours on that ship, and it was a solid pattern platform.
I did make some mods, if you're intersted you might be able to do a search in the Pattern forum and find the details.
I refurbished the aeroplane about 9 months ago, flew it twice and then got jack of the Pattern fraternity, sold it, and bought a fridge
I tried and tried to get the ST carb to give me a decent transition but after fitting the pump, the OS carb was the only way to fly.

Does anyone know if the G90 has the same muffler mount pattern as the OS 60FX, etc.? That would be a big plus for all the headers and mufflers available.
thanks!

Gotta Love this engine!
I have two in planes I'm curently flying. 1 in a cermark extra using a Bolly Clubman 13.5x8 loves it! I also have one in my Cermark 60 size F-16. With a tuned pipe turning a 11X9 APC at 12,900 static. This thing Really screams. They both run awsome. the Extra's from Italy the F-16's is from the orient. Both run the same Sweet! I have two more on the shelf for F-4 Great Planes Jets when time allows..

LUDS96, what kind of a tuned pipe do you have? Okay, so the muffler bolt pattern is like that of a G90. Is it unique, unlike anything else? Hopefully, Mac's makes a header to fit it?
Also, if this engine's strength is in it's torque, not rpms, does the tuned pipe emphasize the grunt, or come on at high rpms totally unlike the stock muffler?
Thanks loads!

Ernie, there's some good pipe info in the G90 link I posted above. Tempting, but I think it might look a bit out of place on a Tiger.

Need to do a real balance but it appears to be almost perfect with the battery pack where it sits now. Any fine tuning will be done with battery placement.
Its been really cold here so Ive been staying inside :P
