Hi
I'v been reading about the twist from Hangar 9 and was thinking about the durabulity. I understand its not gonna take an inverted dumb thumb But I was thinking of stuff like getting flipped over on landing in a crosswind or slamming it down on a landing. I'v heard of how it cracks right behing the canopy. I'm either getting this plane our a US 40 maybe even a burrito.
I'm not after 3D but what engine should work for some nice vertical and serious sport flying>?
.46ax-evolution .61 NT Both are the same price. This will be my second plane But I can fly the wings off my trainer and do all the aerobatics on Aerofly Pro. I"m not going to be able to run out and buy a new plane a month after I get this one so i don't want something I'll grow out of quickly. I understand I'll probally have to buy a computer radio too. I was thikning a 6EXA.
Thanks for all the help.

I had a Twist with a YS .63, in my opinion you would have to be a really "dumb thumb" to put this baby into the ground. I flew the snot out of it for 100 flights and sold it because I found it so easy to fly it was boring and I don't do 3D, so it was no point in keeping it around. It did not delevop any cracks, etc. while I had it and it was grossly overpowered with the YS in it, I never used anymore than 4 channels.
On a windy day this plane will remain air borne at -10 mph.

Thanks Don
I won't be using more than 4 channels either but what about Dual Rates. Some people were sayin that if you wanna have fun with the twist in the air you have to crank up the throws that would mean takeing off and landing with high rates. I do it on AFP but thats just a little different.
I like the Twist because it looks like something easy to fly but Go Wild on high rates. I'm also looking to build a kit in the near future. Probally a Burrito since all these people are telling me how nice it flies. So if this one gets totalled it won't be the end of the world.
Thanks again.

The Twist has a weak spot just behind the canopy. That seems to be where most of them break. I've been flying mine since April with 150+ flights and I've broke it completely in half 3 times in that same spot. I've flattened out the landing gear and broke the gear mount block so many times I quit counting. It's easy to fix and obviously a tough little plane. Most of my "accidents" were from doing rudder touches and harrier. I gave it a hard time, but it is an inexpensive plane to learn those manuevers with. I maxed out all the throws and use 40% expo . The OS .46 AX is a good engine for it. Use a sport prop such as APC. I use an APC 12.25x3.75 for 3D. On low rates it's a babe and on high with maxed out throws it's a cut-up.

fasterthanlife,
The twist is a very cool 3D trainer and easy and fun to fly. However, for "normal" aerobatics I think it falls a little short. It doesn't track all that well and knife edge is a mess without lots of careful mixing. So if you want to learn slow rolls, point, rolls, etc, moves that use the rudder, you'll have to spend some time programming before you'll get true inputs. I really like mine, but I bought it for a spare 3D ship. BTW, I broke mine in half too. I was suprised at how easy it was to fix, and how the damage was confined to just the fuse behind the canopy. It's almost like breakaway bolts in that the impact and damage is contained, saving the rest of the plane.

I too broke mine right behind the canopy. Mine was an easy repair also but I did add some lite ply to reinforce this area. I love this plane, its the first plane I grab when I head to the field. Mine has the evo .46 with a 12.25 x 3.75 prop and it's a fantastic combo. i am setup with dual rates but honestly this plane flys so well that I feel you can fly 100% of the time on hi rates. I do plan on replacing mine with a new one sometime soon.

You guys must be pretty rough on these little planes!! I have about 4 gallons of fuel (20 min per 8oz) thru mine & I thought I've been pretty hard on it - endless flat spins - harrier landings - tailwheel touch & goes etc. etc. etc & no sign of anything cracking or breaking. Even smacked the ground from about 6 feet up and only bent the gear a little.
There are 5 of these flying at my field & all get pretty much the same abuse
& none have shown any weekness anywhere. Ya never know though mine might fall apart tomorrow!!!

don't get me wrong I and only I am the reason mine split in two. I had a very hard landing that probably would have damaged most planes but the Twist is built very light to do what everyone wants it to do and when you build light like this the airframe might not be as sturdy as say a trainer for example.
